Plutus Well you are very patient. I would of fired him. He scored 8.5 times less than his team mate.

Just 6 points compared to 51 for Hulkenberg is in my opinion total incompetence. Giving him another year is madness when there are talented drivers on the sidelines.

51-6 is a pretty embarrassing margin by anyone's standards.

He had the Seb Bourdais problem of being in a situation where the lower point situations would look good if the team-mate wasn't embarrassing Ferrari and Lotus.

I wonder if we'll see a Razia style last min switch.

Wasn't that due to the sponsorship money not going through? I highly doubt the team would take Max Chilton over Razia if they both brought sponsorship.

Where the Merc teams are concerned they are all big competitors and I can see them taking points off each other and voiding their early advantage.

Mercedes only supply one competitive team and that's McLaren due to their big partnership they had before Mercedes came into F1 as a team. I wouldn't call Force India or Williams competitive, only 1 podium and 1 win between them since 2009.

Remember Mercedes when they make upgrades and new parts it will be done with the input of the factory team and the customer teams will not get those parts until later or use different parts that do not work as well

------------

Red Bull's woes - Renault said they were waiting for Red Bull to fix the car before going out. It took Red Bull over 4 hours to get out whilst Seb may have another day tomorrow . He is losing out on the miles gained and obviously leads to lack of confidence in the car

Now it has happened in the past where somehow the teams that start with fragile cars suddenly turn up first race are immediately on the pace and some winning races that they should not

Tomorrow will be another interesting day for Vettel.

Whilst the Renault engine teams appear to have problems it seems Red Bull are the most affected but then Caterham are using Red Bull parts as well and managed over 50 laps !

------

Last time Renault has serious engine problems was when they tried the radical 111 degree engine on their own team and did not many miles testing and it did not take them until mid season to at least get it sorted to be one respectable pace

Are Renault acting independently for a start or are they following the supposedly factory team - Red Bull for directions on the engine design ?

The problem with your theory Il_leone is that the engines will be homogenized before the start of the season and the only changes that will be allowed for the suppliers to make with the consent of the FIA will be on safety or reliability grounds and those changes will have to be passed on to all the customer teams immediately and equally, F1 is not like MotoGP in that respect.

Mercedes or any other supplier will not be allowed to make changes for performance reasons alone and keep those changes for themselves..

Maybe they should put cardboard cutouts in the stands?

Slyboogy yeah I guess Razia was a bad example maybe I should have said Petrov style last min change......although that was prob for money too. You know what I mean though.

As for Mclaren being Mercs only competitive supplied team (other than factory) I'd say you're under estimating Williams on that front.

Yes they have been a horse and cart show for the last decade or so but they are an old hand and a team who knows how to win things when it comes down to it. Prime example is 2012 when the pack was mixed up. Sauber couldn't take advantage to take a race win, neither could Force India but even with Crashtor Maldonado Williams still manage to take a win by out smarting Ferrari.

I believe a team like Williams had all the procedures and experience on plavce to be a multi championship winning team and they don't just go away. I think if they find themselves with a decent competitive car that will play a part when it comes to getting the best results. I'd put money on them being able to secure race victories before I'd put money on any other team out the top 5 taking wins anyway.

As for FI not being competitive that is true. The Hulk has a habbit if taking points off bigger name drivers though.

Magnussen has put the McLaren into the 1:34s... Only 2.5 seconds off the pole lap last year... If the cars have been slowed down, it's only by a small margin! (And it's only 1.2 seconds slower than Button's fastest qualifying lap in 2013)

6. Kamui Kobayashi Japan Caterham-Renault 1min 39.855secs 66 laps
7. Sebastian Vettel Germany Red Bull-Renault 1min 40.340secs 59 laps

10. Romain Grosjean France Lotus-Renault 1min 41.6704secs 18 laps
11. Max Chilton Britain Marussia-Ferrari 1min 42.511secs 17 laps

The pace is quite a surprise The Artist..... considering the prediction was that the new cars would be roughly 5s per lap slower. 2.5 seconds off with two months of development to go before the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix, and supposedly none of the teams have used full engine power yet (at least this was the story yesterday).

Greenlantern101 The rules do allow for a monkey seat I believe.

The Lotus E-22, it seems, maintains the asymmetrical theme from stem to stern (10cm of exhaust asymmetry is provided for in the TR).

Autosprint reckons it could be being done for reasons of cooling, or for reasons of downforce, but they fail to consider the elephant in the room: shoddy construction.

@BlogZbod... It's perfectly possible that the asymmetry at the front means that the air on the LHS of the car is somehow moving quicker than the air on the RHS. Therefore, by having the exhaust exiting rightwards, it accellerates the air on that side.... It could also be that because this is a clockwise circuit, that they believe this will help them go round right hand corners.... (a la indycars)....

My suspicion is that it's much simpler than that; if it exits in a straight line, it will set the rear wing pylon on fire, and we say bye bye to the rear wing!

The rear bodywork looks like it was made for a centre exit exhaust though, so I am with either an emergency bodge, or poor manufacturing. Bearing in mind a friend of mine works for the lotus fabrication dept specialising in pipe work, I will go for a track side emergency bodge!!!

Yes, an F1 driver must always be compared to his team-mate. However, it is not always suitable to judge on points alone. I see potential in Gutierrez and remember it was no car that was running at the front but mainly at the back of the field for most of the season, usually those cars are more difficult to handle and a rookie will have his difficulties dealing with those.

I don't know, which driver is more talented? Frijns, Calado, Bird? Do we know for certain? No.

Gutierrez cannot be total incompetent driver, he won the GP3 championship ahead of drivers such as Wickens and Rossi. He also finished third in the 2012 GP2 championship.

I do not know if he is bringing money to the team but that would just be another plus point, otherwise we'd have people crying about losing the Sauber F1 Team.
