RasputinLives - As a country, we're not supporting Bahrain by being there at a motor race. We're supporting Bahrain because our government refuses to condemn, by trading with them, by keeping our military bases there, by having the Queen invite their King over for supper. Any motorsport boycott would simply be illusiory.

F1 allows the issues in Bahrain to be raised but nothing gets through the smokescreen that Cameron has put up. It is not Jenson Button's job to dictate British foreign policy.

Sorry Greenlantern101

Oohhhh look at the test line up! (Yawn)

Actually Caterham continuing to give Frinjs track time speaks volumes of their view on Ericsson.

teabagyokel I'd take 'illusionairy' over apathetic acceptence anyday.

There is nothing apathetic about believing that sport not being a tool for governments to hit each other over the head with, if it were then all we would have to do to resolve disputes between countries would to be to select the hardest man from each country involved and have them knock seven bails of shit out of each other until the one left standing is proven the victor and the dispute resolved, in that way we could avoid wars and a lot of mindless killing.

Or maybe we should declare the winner of the WDC the ruler of the whole world for one year until the next one comes along, all hail Vettel supreme ruler elect for the last four years...

But that is not the way the world works is it?

Once again I say that sport is not politics if it were we would never have allowed China to hold the 2008 Olympic games.

First hour of testing today:
Mercedes powered teams - 19 laps
Ferrari powered teams - 15 laps
Renault powered teams - 3 laps

Not exactly a flying start for Renault but no one has really started running properly yet.

Edit: Two and a half hours in and Caterham and Lotus have managed 25 laps between them but still no sign of Toro Rosso and Red Bull. Sauber lead the way with 30 laps, followed by Mercedes with 23.

As a bit of context, mclaren were only really fast on the first day of the first test- they bolted on some hard tyres and went faster than anyone else. It turned out that the team had accidentally put a piece of suspension on upside down, which whilst not making the car illegal, meant that the car could run lower than normal, but wouldn't allow them to fill the tanks up fully!

When this was corrected, mclaren were regularly over a second off the pace!

And currently, lotus' fastest time is 5.6 seconds off the McLaren benchmark, whilst Caterham is 5.1 seconds off... Maybe Red Bull can get their car on the track and set some lap times...

So the big question is when the Renault cars get going will they be fast? Second question is will they be reliable? To finish first, first you have to finish.

4 hours in and no Redbulls. Surely that means they are having problems. After almost no running in the first test you would think they would be first ones out.

I've heard reports of "cutting equipment" being used at the back of the Red Bull chassis - essentially they've clearly still not sorted out their packaging issues, and it's now belt and braces time to try and get the car out on track.

This could be one of the most embarrassing seasons for a reigning constructors champion....

Seb finally looks like he's coming out on track.
[edit] Looking like he might come out on track.
[edit] He's leaving the garage!
