Yeah, no...initial reports suggest there is an installation problem with Ricciardo's back teeth getting in the way of the revised positioning of the Renault ERS battery pack. Adrian Newey has apparently pulled out no less than 3 of his remaining hairs trying to sort it out. Christian Horner is currently grinding his own back teeth down to nubbins in frustration...

Apart from the front wing failure the Mercedes has been pretty rock solid. Hamilton was on the 19th lap of a stint before a red flag came out when Alonso stopped on track.

Brawn GP didn't turn a wheel until 3 weeks before Melbourne in 2009 and we all know what happened there. But remember everything went perfect for them. Red Bull haven't had that.

In 2009 Button took the Brawn out for a single installation lap. When he got back to the pits he said that it was a winning car. This year Red Bull are having fires at the back after a few laps, so it is hardly a good comparison.

I have a theory.

Due to the new exhaust regulations using the discharge gases can no longer be used. From observations over the course of last season this seemed to give an advantage of over one second to the RBR drivers. So now Newey is clawing this back by hot burning carbon, but he is having some problems getting it to turn off during the second lap. He will succeed though.
