Mercedes and Ferrari in 'secret' Pirelli tyre tests

Ah...

So Red Bull are playing the game. Technically they're right, they should receive the same punishment as Mercedes. They're lucky Mosely isn't still around, it was this style of behaviour that he usually stamped out at the first opportunity.

Personally I reckon a punishT should be more severe if Red Bull were to do it, because they fully know that it is against the rules and so does everyone else.

Is this the start of the end of the no testing area?

Well two things spring to mind regarding Red Bull organising a three day test instead of attending the YDT.
1. ( as has already been stated) the confused rules have now been clarified and they can't do it
2. The test has to be organised by Pirelli, so they can't just go ahead and organise one.

Red Bull can organise anything that they want to. Unfortunately for them it is extremely unlikely that Pirelli will supply any tyres for them to use. But they can always try running with tyres supplied by KwikFit.

Someone should tell the Red Bull management to grow up.

They would not even likely get the same punishment as Mercedes because they would not have the mitigation of a false FIA promise, the ostensible control of Pirelli or the court finding no malicious intent.

They would thus, based on these statements, be found to have just as much malicious intent as the book hurtling quickly towards their face having been hurtled by the tribunal chairman.

Red Bull need to remember the old proverb that talks about glass houses and stone throwing. They may think they're one of the big kids on the playground but unlike Ferrari who Bernie considers indispensable and who have their former boss in the top job at the FIA, Red Bull are just an overgrown fizzy drinks maker who would be dropped like a hot brick in the cause of furthering Bernies interests.

Red Bull have made a significant contribution to F1 for quite a number of years even before they formed their own team. I'm not sure when they started sponsoring Sauber but I remember the RB logo being on their car for many years.

If Red Bull were forced to leave the championship then one of the big stumbling blocks in regards to the budget cap would be removed. Cost's could be reduced and teams brought closer together and potentially a more open championship.

F1Yorkshire, I think we'll have to disagree on this one. I don't consider a long history of sponsorship to be a "significant contribution". Money comes and as we all know in F1, it all too quickly goes.

Adrian Newey has made a significant contribution. Its a fact of life that he needs the right resources to be able to fulfill his and the teams ambitions. That could come from anyone. It doesn't have to be Red Bull.

I don't think Bernie is ever going to consider a drinks company as important as a big national car brand (Ferrari, Mercedes) who attract nations or even McLaren as the historic garagiste.

Red Bull weren't in F1 before 2005; if it can lose Brabham, Lotus and Renault (twice), it'll have no compunction saying goodbye to Mateschitz.

Red Bull have in F1 since 1996 I think supporting Sauber heavily and buying a stake in the team... their relationship turned sour when Peter Sauber opted for Kimi Raikkonen instead of Enrique Bernoldi to drive for Sauber... funny how Kimi has been sponsored by Red Bull for a while and the F1 team want him

Red Bull not happy with Sauber started selling up their stake and sponsor Bernoldi in the Arrows team for 2001. Afterwards they manage to bring $10m to Jaguar with Klein which ended both Pantano and Wilson's F1 careers

as for this testing they are proposing they are suggesting Mercedes cheated and gained an unfair advantage

I am not sure how the FIA can punish them unless they threaten to ban them from the next race

Nice to see Bernie just thought his ex wife was a commodity if she did not like it no big deal ...she is living the riches off him (- gold digger might be a word used. Yeah neither of his daughters went to the wedding either

If Mercedes were shocked to receive such a light punishment, maybe the rules were not as ambiguous as people seem to think.

their defence lawyers argued about ambiguity between going to the FIA ( Charlie Whiting ), and Pirelli being allowed to do tyre testing therefore saying it is not clear cut who should be responsible ultimately

Its this ambiguity which Red Bull may exploit to do their own testing for parts because they think Mercedes were also testing new parts
