Mercedes and Ferrari in 'secret' Pirelli tyre tests

Nico Rosberg - complete idiot said:
"Of course, I was aware of what their ideas were and what they were testing because I needed to know that to be able to pinpoint for them what was going on," he said."

Ross Brawn - about to be former boss of the Mercedes F1 team said:
"We didn't know that when you do a Pirelli tyre test that you don't know what tyres you are testing. You are given codes. Each day there was a batch tested and we still don't know what the conclusions were."

Well, Nico appears to have signed Ross Brawn's ejection warrant from F1. If Rosberg knew what tyres that were being used, but the team didn't, you have to come to one of a few conclusions:

1. Nico Rosberg knew, but the team was a complete idiot and didn't ask him!
2. The team did know what tyres that were being used, but Ross Brawn is lying
3. Nico Rosberg has something to gain from stabbing his team in the back....

This whole affair is surrounded in lies and innuendo... Someone's head will roll, and I suspect it will be Paul Hembery and Ross Brawn.

I suppose one important question is what Mercedes have now told the FIA/the stewards at the Monaco GP... If they've told them that they didn't know what was being tested, then Mercedes really are in a whole heap of trouble... It's liegate all over!!!.... They can't have done that, can they???

So do Mercedes fight for just Lewis and boycott Nico or do they treat them equal and face potential DSQ from the WCC?

Edit: Silly question, of course they treat them equal!

I'm not sure where the contradiction between Rosberg and Brawn is so obvious?

"Of course, I was aware of what their ideas were (improving tyre safety, performance, longevity?) and what they were testing (different tyres to the current ones) because I needed to know that to be able to pinpointfor them (did the car feel different and how, when, where, etc) what was going on."
He could have added "They worked better with the new parts we had for Spain than the old tyres" but he didn't - he's not an idiot.

"We didn't know that when you do a Pirelli tyre test that you don't know what tyres (we expected sets of super-soft, softs, etc) you are testing. You are given codes. Each day there was a batch tested (no coloured stripes on them) and we still don't know what the conclusions (we provided Pirelli with raw data and driver feedback for them to analyse) were."
He could have added "We have drawn our own conclusions but I'm fucked if I'm telling you" but he didn't - he's not an idiot either.

Both answers are suitably vague in the extreme - only a specific reading of them tells the story somebody has decided upon.

Never Yet again in the field of pseudo-journalism has so much speculative crap been written about so little by so many. :D
...... and yet again so many are happy to speculate further based upon the original speculation.

If what Brundle just said is accurate, then we know who's head should roll first. Charlie Fucking Whiting!

Brawn claims to have cleared this test via e-mail with Chuck W. That is, using a 2013 car WAS allowed.

If he gave the go-ahead, and Mercedes end up being penalized, then there's no way he can stay on in his current role. Time and time again his word continues to be completely worthless. He causes many more issues than actually clearing them up.

But if Charlie's the supposed titular head of the FIA at the circuit, then why does he always confuse the matter further? In other words, he's completely useless.
