Mercedes and Ferrari in 'secret' Pirelli tyre tests

My god this is dragging on. So now Merc and pirrelli have 15 more days to prepare their case. So the tribunal will start around the 20th June by my reckoning. Could easily be July before this concludes. GET ON WITH IT.

Can't the tribunal just take a couple of hours to read this thread, all the facts, gossip and biased innuendo are included somewhere.

Then, get Mercedes, Pirelli and the FIA in the same room and argue it out until some geezer coughs to being guilty, and tells truth.
Mind you that could turn into this!
Nico has to play Blondie! ...... and JT would fit as Tuco!

One of my favourite films.

Clint Eastwood (Blondie) = FIA
Eli Wallach (Tuco) = Mercedes
Lee Van Cleef (Angel Eyes) = Pirelli

No room for Nico - too dull :)

Pirelli pointed out in their "strongly worded statement" (several posters have included links in this thread) in response to the FIA as to how they went about choosing who to use on that occasion and why. They also claim to have extended the invites as far as reasonably practicable with global invites pre-season followed by various email communications during the season. Unless they are lying through their teeth that shouldn't be an issue.
:D

Is that the same strongly worded statement that said that they hadn't tested any 2013 tyres- only tyres for subsequent championships.... A statement that Paul Hembery explicitly contradicted earlier this week? This sort of thing reminds me of Melbourne 2009a the official line being contradicted by a single statement by a team member- which leads to a tonne of shit!

it seems that is a dearth of information or debate about what Pirelli and McLaren were actually doing in the tests

I'm sorry, I've missed something here, are McLaren implicated as well now?

As I more or less said much earlier if Mercedes do not know from the car data whether or not the tyres in use are this year's or next either there is very little difference or Mercedes do not know what they are doing.

Perfectly obvious that that was a simple mistake due to writing in the early hours when I should have been asleep. I got timed out during editing the post. I don't mind folk's highlighting my mistakes as I don't have a proofreader. It's nice if when doing so one can be funny or helpful. I don't appreciate smartarse. Thanks.:D

We're looking at a bare minimum of 30 days until anything else happens here. Mercedes has 15 days to respond, and then the "tribunal" has another 15 days to plan its course of action.

This was fully expected. Dismissing this "protest" out of hand was never in the cards. That would make it seem too obvious that the FIA is in a very tenuous position here. Plus, I'm sure they're eager to trot out their "Council" for the first time.

Brogan - Do you really think the FIA is going to cut off its nose to spite its face? A two engine manufacturer series is wholly unappealing.

I'm not sure Nico is going to convince many people with the "We learned nothing" line. Millions of people are already predisposed to believe they gained an extraordinary amount from track time alone. Whether they did or not is neither here nor there. If pundits and "experts" say they did learn something, then people will naturally believe they did.

Yes, and more to the point Mercedes could still be in big trouble anyway regardless of whether or not they gained an advantage (which to be honest I can't see how it could be proved or disproved anyway) if it is deemed the test shouldn't have taken place at all.
