Interesting comments under this article....
"It is doubtful that either Ferrari or Mercedes will be punished, but as F tested the current spec tyres, and clearly have benefitted from those tests with improved performance, then they are the ones who should have points deducted, as it is F, I do not see that happening"

Lotus perform well with the tyres & Pirelli have one of their cars to test with.

Sorry, but your comment has nothing to do with the link you've posted!

Hard to agree with you here F1ang-o. It's not clear at all that Ferrari have benefited from the testing. They already had a very good car and had a dominant win in China. There is no indication their performance had improved further in Spain and considering the grip issues they had in Monaco I would suggest they've made no gains at all and in fact have much work to do.

Yes pirateplunder he has always maintained that this year's tyres were tested and yet the Pirelli bosses say different hence my saying about not singing from the same hymnbook and Hembery contradicting the statement by Pirelli.....

You are probably right..
Must have been under...
'The FIA wants to hear from Ferrari as part of its investigation into Pirelli Testing'
It was post 116..
I am sorry... it was not a malicious deed....just trying to show that .....F1 is so........diverse

Just a thought......

What would the FIA have to gain from cracking down on Mercedes? Aside from placating the thrice reigning champs, and to a lesser extent (recently implicated) Ferrari, I can see hardly any benefit from driving a huge rift between the governing body and one of its most important constructors/engine suppliers.

If they did come down hard, with the nullification of points or with a race ban, the FIA is in serious danger of alienating an important piece of F1's transition to Turbo's and endangering the agreements already made between Mercedes and other constructors. The knock-on effects of such an action could have ramifications lasting far into the future when this testing row will have been long forgotten.

A rule clarification (after all that's what Ferrari wanted!) and possibly fairly small fine for Merc. This is something the FIA want to sweep under the carpet. Can't blame Pirelli (they need them), won't blame themselves. Probably can't blame Merc too much, without incriminating either of the other two parties. Ferrari's test complicates things a little and theres no way the FIA will touch them - that helps Merc.
