Head To Head Jenson Button vs Lewis Hamilton

Conclusion about what?? The discussion was around how Jenson used to be the tyre king and now he's not.

To be fair to Button though he may have struggled with the soft tyres in India, pitting early meant that he did the longest stint of the race on hard tyres of 35 laps and still managed to put in the fastest lap at the end of the race.

Good point. Unfortunately needing to pit at that point meant he came out in traffic and more importantly stuck behind Grosjean which meant he was unable to capitalise on any potential advantage he may have got when going onto the primes.

Hamberg - Each driver has his excuses, Lewis seems to need to learn clutch control a bit better, especially as he has done the same many times in his career so far at the start of races.

I have heard of automatic clutches and launch control but not automatic tyres. I can't blame either Lewis or the car for some poor getaways that he has experienced because I simply don't know any better. What are you basing your conclusions on?

Mephistopheles
I don't believe that it is so much the tyres that he has struggled with, but the characteristics of the car and technical regulations and how they affect tyre management. The tyre management problems he is has had appear to me to be a symptom of a wider cause.

ExtremeNinja that is a very astute rational argument and so I respect it ten times more than the simplicity of saying "This proves this, or that proves that." nonsense

I In no way think that Jenson is a better or worse driver than Lewis I just think they both have their own attributes both good and bad....

Let's face it nobody is perfect not even me or thee...:)

Thank you. With occasional fault, I always try to be objective. Hence why I get a bit grumpy when people tell me that I'm being biased or attacking their driver.

In varying conditions from one race to another or one season to another, it is my opinion that both are able to beat the other. I do, however, feel that Lewis is able to do that in a wider set of circumstances, though. But that's just my opinion.

I thought I answered that with the post above yours..

No you haven't. You've got upset that somebody came up with reasons why Hamilton is better than Button (purpose of the thread) and subsequently made some scathing attacks on Hamilton being unable to perform unless his family is there, makes more excuses than anybody etc. etc. and accusing people of using one snippet of a variety of pieces of information as to proclaiming it as the sole piece of evidence used in one race when actually it's one piece of many.

He finished 13 seconds ahead of Button in India. This season has shown that not one is better than the other at managing their tyres, it depends on the characteristics but in this race Hamilton did something he's often accused of not being able to do.
  • Hamilton has won more races
  • Hamilton has been higher than Button in more championships
  • Hamilton has more poles
  • Hamilton has more points
This is why, to date, Hamilton is beating Button in the Button vs Hamilton debate.

Can we keep it nice folks - not a problem so far but I conscious that this discussion could degenerate very quickly as it touches nerves with many on here.

Cheers

My brother always makes the point saying JB is crap (to use politer words) and he always goes to the fact that Hamilton's won more races, in a shorter time, JB was in F1 7 years longer than Lewis so he should have a lot more wins right? But he was in a bad car, but Lewis was in no car, so he had a better chance and so it continues! At the end of the day, the stats don't lie and we all know what they say

I'm just going 2010 to current Jos the Boss, it's unfair to compare them in different cars I think, and arguably JB needs some slight leeway for 2010 given it was a new team.

No you haven't. You've got upset that somebody came up with reasons why Hamilton is better than Button (purpose of the thread)

First of all I am not upset about anyone believing their favoured driver is better than any other driver and second of all I did not realize that the sole purpose of this thread was to prove that Lewis is better than Jenson, if that is the purpose of this thread then I should have stuck to my guns and not started posting on such a biased topic.....

Stop being pedantic. The purpose of the thread is 'vs' as you well know. By default it's going to lead to comparison's. And it's not always about people being unaccepting that their favourite driver isn't the best. I think Alonso is better than Hamilton, I think Button a the moment is better than Rosberg.

If that's the stance Button fans want to take when it comes to Lewis go for it. I find it interesting that the only response to completely factual post about who has the more poles, points, wins etc (what actually matters rather than off track politics) was met with the response 'Sebastian Vettel'.

I think this thread is becoming very telling. Button fans or pretend neutrals have always insinuated Hamilton fans are irrational and emotive. Amazing what has happened now Hamilton is firmly back in front

EDIT: Apologies, The Pits has pointed out I've done one of my pet hates and grouped all fans together. Wherever you see 'xxx fans' the word 'certain' should be in front. Except for the pretend neutrals who irritate the crap out of me :)
