2014 / 2015 Silly Season. Drivers Market.

I seem to remember that Boulier rubbished Alonso when he joined Renault just after Alonso left. Has he changed his mind, or was it just for show?

A well timed public show of support for the current driver line up could do two things, relieve a bit of pressure on them so that they can focus on racing until the end of the season. McLaren are almost certainly too far behind Ferrari to catch them now but with double points who knows? There has been a slight up turn in their performance in the last two races and with Ferrari now struggling with one driver going and one driver not performing as they would have liked, who knows what may happen.

Secondly, a public show of support for the two current drivers may put pressure on anyone wishing to join the team to either make his mind up or accept a deal that's on the table knowing that if he doesn't the team isn't too worried because they've still got a line up they can work with. While Alonso would bring a great deal to the McLaren party, there is a lot of baggage to be ditched first. (on both sides).

That's true cider_and_toast but ultimately it might not make a lot of difference if, as many suspect, everything was already decided a long time ago and it's just a matter of sorting out one or two of the finer legal points before anyone may be in a position to officially confirm anything.
We just don't know what it is yet.

If Button and Alonso were to team up at McLaren it would be a bit like Dad's Army racing :snigger: Says he who's 10 years older than both :(

Now Alonso is going to race for Audi at the WEC. :givemestrength:
