Grand Prix 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Following the largest break between races, excluding the summer shutdown since 2023 due to the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, & 1999 when there was a 5 week gap between the 1st & 2nd races, we are currently experiencing a compact schedule with 4 races in 5 weeks before the season concludes in the Middle East. Interestingly, this demonstrates the recent expansion of the calendar; Kimi Räikkönen secured his sole championship 2007 on the 21st October, (which was yesterday from the time of writing), yet this year, there are still 5 races remaining.

This weekend is what we think could potentially host the penultimate Mexican Grand Prix. (as i think it was Bill Boddy deserves the credit if it is) aAs many anticipate Sergio Perez's departure from F1 at the end of the year, which would likely mark the end of his tenure, a retirement announcement was expected on Thursday. Contrary to expectations, Perez insists he's not leaving, stating, "I just wanted to make it clear that I will 100% be here in 2025. I have a contract and I will fulfill it." & you know nothing would please me more if sergio perez could win his home race. it would be a dream come true for him & maybe a nice way to leave the sport

However, the general consensus is that the 2025 Mexican GP may lack local interest for the first time, leading to a struggle in ticket sales, and it's doubtful the contract will be extended beyond 2025. im going to throw this out there should Colapinto secure a seat in 2025 & continue to impress, we might see the Mexican GP dropped & their 'Americas' venue replaced with a return to Argentina.

which if Mexican GP does go, i cant say id be too sad about, as i dont mean to be harsh. but i cant think of an entertaining race weve had in the 10? years since we returned. yes we have had dramatic moments perez last yr forgetting to break, verstappen a glimpse into the future 2016, Bottas crashing into kimi in 2015 on the final lap & thinking about it that might be it.

& as we are in mexico here is a mexican wave

Today has reinforced my view, that just like Michael Schumacher, Max Verstappen uses his car as a form of weapon. It’s either let me through or we have accident.
It's more his antics were simply ridiculous. I've been saying get the gravel traps back to prevent Verstappen doing this

sainz is very unlucky & if there was any justice he should be in 2nd red bull seat

but lewis is a 7 time world champion & in my opinion 1 of the 3 greatest of the 40 yrs. you have to take him when he becomes available
OK, I basically agree with you. Expecially that Red Bull should fire Perez and hire Sainz, if Ferrari insists on allowing Hamilton to finish his carrer with the red prancing horse. Hamilton was my favorite driver in the day. But age does catch up with people, even F1 drivers. The idea that Sainz should be driving for Williams next year is ludicrous. Ferrari must be kicking themselves in the prancing horses' a** right not.

Don't you just want to smack that smirk off Verstappen's face? It won't matter much longer. He's done.
I would like to hear what was said about the Austn incident by the drivers to see who ganged up on him but more importantly the others know he is going to get punished now.

The absolutely fucking rank hypocrisy of Horner ...

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, meanwhile, produced some data that he said proved Norris had braked later on the lap of the incident than he had on even his fastest lap of the race, and was never going to make the corner.

Then he accused Norris of deliberately doing this to ensure he had his nose ahead into the corner.

“It used to be a reward of the bravest to go around the outside,” Horner said. "We are in danger of flipping the overtaking laws upside down, where drivers will just try to get their nose ahead at the apex and then claim they have to be given room on the exit.

“You can see quite clearly he has effectively come off the brakes, gone in super late to try to win that argument the way these regs are written. And then at that point you are penalised.”

yes ferrari will be worried because Hamilton is a big risk, they are hoping that the hamilton of the mid season is here & they have signed him on reputation & the financial boost it had on stock market. & all the greatest drivers have driven for ferrari (or have had contract signed in sennas case)

& i believe give him the car & he will still deliver, but for austin DSQ he shouldve come 2nd last yr in the championship in the 4th quickest team & hamilton having a "poor" season beaten in qualifying & race head to heads. but where its counts in points & wins. lewis is beating russell in both sets

Horner is biggest danger to F1 not Verstappen, the telemetry press conference shows that because what vettel & Verstappen did was bad, but what is worse is being an enabler, the way he lets his no1 get away with murder is more dangerous. espically when you see what happened when vettel tried red bull tactics in Sochi & Brazil 2019. ferrari came down like a tonne of bricks on him

i didnt watch F1 in 94 & 97. but i dont think briatore tried to defend the indefensible & embarrass himself by publicly claiming that hill or villenueve were at fault for collisions

Tbh Horner is closer getting ousted seeing Red Bull are crumbling . Someone should ask Horner what would you have done if it was the other way round?

I didn't get to watch the race live, I did see the highlights later on though. Not sure if anyone noticed, Carlos Sainz won the race.
i was waiting for this. i thinking its a shame norris came 2nd as we don't get "ferrari came 1-2" comment LOL

As part of Max’s punishment they should have made him sit down post-race and watch a replay of Lewis and George demonstrating how very close (including going side by side through a corner), intense, hard racing can be done in a fair and respectful manner. Nah! On second thought, in Max’s mind he would just be imagining where and when (whether he was the car in front or behind) he would have had the opportunity to run the other car off the road. The guy is a menace. And it seems he’ll never learn because he never admits to being wrong—he always comes up with some bogus rationalization about how what he did was fair and legal.or it was the other driver who was at fault. It’s long past time that he should have been given race ban rather than just time penalties.

I'm less sure about that - I think that if there were gravel traps, his actions would just result in more drivers being pushed off into the gravel traps.
I think you have a point there because then, instead of just keeping the other driver from making the pass (or while he was attempting to do so) and also losing some time, he would have the opportunity to actually eliminate that competitor by forcing him to get stuck in the gravel. Crazy that it has come to the point where we would even be thinking about such a thing!
