The Olympics 2012

Daley and Waterfield have missed out on a medal in the 10m synchronised diving, finishing 4th, with China getting the gold. They led after the first two dives but a couple of below par dives after that left them with too much to do.

It doesn't quite seem to be happening for Team GB at the moment.

On a more positive note, both Laura Robson and Heather Watson won their first round matches in the tennis today.

Well done to the men's gymnastics team, it looked touch and go to win a bronze with Ukraine, but to pull it out the bag on the floor to win the silver was immense.

The USA, Russia and Germany outside the medals?
That's just weird.

Damn shame about them losing the silver - why was the appeal upheld?
That would indicate the judging wasn't entirely unbiased...

The Japanese guy got a low score as he (in the first interpretation of the judges) 'fell off'. However the judges upheld the Japanese appeal that the incident was a dismount - as he landed on his feet and he was in the dismount procedure as he was 'falling' off. As it was ruled a dismount, an extra 0.5 points were awarded, consequently moving the Japanese up to second.

That makes sense, thanks mjo

I would agree it was a dismount, rather than a fall, even if it was the kind of dismount I would probably manage :D
