Head To Head Sebastian Vettel vs Daniel Ricciardo

In Canada - Ricciardo was behind Vettel and then managed to nail an in lap nearly 1 second faster which bought them much closer

In Hungary - Ricciardo made the call on the 2nd safety car to change when no one else did plus Vettel spun through his own error

snowy In reference to Button struggling vs Magnussen - on 1 lap speed yes because everyone knows Button was not fastest over 1 lap but come race day he shows his experience and usually ends up beating Magnussen - apart from Germany which was eschewed by the first corner incident and Melbourne

I was going say how about:censored: Seb !

One thing I do notice with Seb is when he can't pass anyone because his car is like a tortoise down the straight he starts mouthing off how poor the straightline speed is or moans to his engineer to get people to move over

Just read F1 Magazine and the article on Ricciardo. Apparently Seb was moaning in Canada at Rocky that his car was :whistle:a cucumber down the straight because he could not pass Hulkenberg

Its interesting to hear Helmut say to Seb to try harder and refocus:whistle:

Il_leone - Vettel was being held up by a slow moving Force India in Canada hence the time difference.

As for Ricciardo making the call in Hungary. I find it very amusing when a driver someone likes pulls off a good strategy it was 'their call' and when its a driver someone doesn't like its 'pulled off by the team'

I think DR is in a purple patch and SV is in a down year ( possibly mentally and physically exhausted after 4 years of immense pressure)

Let's see how they fare for the rest of the year when DR is expected to be producing good results and SV has more of a chance of adjust to the car and to operate with no pressure since all eyes will be on LH and NR. Next year will be a more telling comparison for them I feel.... Both fresh and both with experience of the team and the new regs....

However my view is that SV is not as good as four titles suggest - just as the winner this year will not really be able to argue that they beat anyone except their teammate SV did for at least some of those four years have the best car by a decent margin and it's seems with hindsight that MW is/was not on a par with FA and LH.

The key fact is that some drivers just burn out....maybe this is already happening to Seb?

With Seb he seems to have a habit of moaning at Rocky to come up with a solution when he is stuck behind someone slower .. it was the same in Canada behind Hulkenberg - so should Rocky go out and lay off some spikes down to flatten Hulkenberg's tyres or something

- err I thought he is partly responsible for setting up the car and the amount of downforce to run

Once again I love the selective hearing people have with drivers radio calls.

He asked his engineer if there was a way they could figure out a strategy to get round a driver in front. What a rotter. I'm shocked.

Vettel was in that Top 4 who lost out badly by being past the pit lane as the safety car came in, of those 4 only Alonso beat his team-mate at the end of the race...

I don't think is burn out issue because he has not had an intense fight with anyone last year - you can't compare it to Senna who probably did burn out because he pushed himself to the extreme limits of human capability against Prost especially

Part of it is down to poor management decision making as Red Bull concentrated on securing last year's titles whilst the rest were trying to plan for 2014. Red Bull have a big budget if not the biggest so its no excuse. They are trying to eschew the blame on Renault - so much for helping them with a better suited engine than Ferrari and given them that much success and in turn Renault sack one of their bosses which is really a travesty

RasputinLives I am not referring to Hungary GP specifically. I am referring to previous races when he shows his frustration at being slow and expects Rocky to somehow find a way to mow away all the cars in front of him

As most people (including drivers and team bosses) have suggested Red Bull's chassie is the best in the field and is being held back by the Renault power unit I find your view point....ermmmm....interesting?

Il_leone Hey. Just thought of something. Do you think Vettel is asking for strategy when he is behind a slower car because the Red Bull lacks straight line speed? Nah. Can't be. It must be because he's moaning.

Its not like we hear any other driver asking their engineer the same thing is it? Imagine if a driver came on the radio and asked "have you got any ideas?" Whilst trying to pass another driver. How silly would that be.

I think it's a matter of driving style. Seb' has always used as much and more of the track width as he could get away with. The Red Bull of his champion period was very compliant and some of the design tweaks and "advantages" allowed him to take liberties with kerbs and the like. This year he has had to reign in his propensity to exceed track limits, due both to the changes in the technical rules and also the enforcement of track limit constraints. In particular he is having great difficulty adjusting to the ban of the EBD (which Red Bull had perfected more than any other team) and having to manage the torque. He can't just pin the throttle pedal anymore and let the ECU do the work. Maybe he doesn't have as deft a foot as we thought.

Nevertheless, Seb' was very much more in the game at the weekend but, as well as being screwed by the safety car, his consistently running wide to defend against Hamilton led to his spin which ultimately damned his race. He's far from burnt out and as the reliability and power unit issues become resolved we'll see him close in on Daniel. I think Ricciardo will still outrace him because Vettel is perhaps too aggressive and too greedy - i.e. uses "too much" track - and IMHO the current formula doesn't suit his current style. If he adjusts that style to suit then all bets are off!

RasputinLives - Obviously because the open radio channels seems to catch him making ill advised remarks that we hear more about it . I am sure JV would have been even worse considering how he treated the engineers
