Grand Prix 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

After a few eventful weeks in Austin and Mexico, I'm truly enjoying Formula 1 at the moment. I can always tell by the third race of the triple headers in recent years that I'm ready for a break, but I'm still enjoying it just as much. This triple header leads us to one of the most cherished venues on the F1 calendar: Interlagos. It's a circuit brimming with atmosphere, drama, history, and provides thrilling racing. It's also the site of many iconic F1 moments. If only we had a few more circuits like this on the calendar.

just in the last few years we had Lewis Hamilton incredible 2021 drive from 20th - 5th in the sprint & 10th - 1st in the GP

The fairytale of Kevin Magnussen's pole position in 2022 and Russell's bittersweet maiden victory marked the beginning of all the troubles in 2023, as they believed their 1-2 finish meant they had finally mastered the new rules.

last year we had a fantastic final few laps battle of Alonso & Perez fighting over 3rd (nice to see proof that a red bull can fight fairly wheel to wheel) & also during qualifying had 1 of the great pictures, as the storm was moments from lashing down

This weekend features a sprint race, the penultimate of the season, with the final sprint race in Qatar in 4 weeks time. Remarkably, Verstappen has triumphed in 8 of the last 9 sprint races & remains undefeated in his last 6. The last time someone else won a sprint race was last October at the Qatar GP, with Oscar Piastri taking the victory.

If only there was a tyre which could work in wet weather conditions.
im so glad lewis embarrassed pirelli in the open. because they have been in F1 now for 14 years. a year longer than bridgestone & their full wet tyres are still as unusable as they were in 2010

Why is not the tyre contract being tendered out ? Only the best drivers excelled in the wet but they can't do it because there is a fit for purpose tyre!!

This is suppose to be the pinnacle of motorsport

If it is raining cats and dogs enough to run the full wets, it's too rainy to run a Grand Prix. Certainly too wet for qualifying.
i did have a topic are we too overcautious in wet conditions that i just reminded myself of in 2016 :o

it not the 90s we are talking about. we are talking about fuji 2007 horrendous conditions but they completed 75% under racing conditions. 2 of the drivers still racing today that raced that day. plus kimi, massa, kubica, button who retired recently

so what changed because we raced in bridgestone era with rarely a problem its either the tyres or in hindsight it was too dangerous. my thought it is the tyres. because as i wrote in 2016. F1 is supposed to have 20 of the "greatest" most talented drivers in the world & on full wets that should be enough for 90% of the conditions, barring freak weather. if not then pirelli need help developing wet tyres like Bridgestone era did & could cope

that was absoulte carnage i saw the 8 min edit, due to.it being 10.30am our time 5 Red Flags, crazy & actually i dont think any of drivers were at fault for what happened just seemed more a pirelli problem that driver problem as the car snapped away out of the blue & if it can happen to alonso & sainz it can happen to anyone

amazing from the underdogs like albon, ocon, tsunoda & lawson to be so high up & this could be huge verstappen in 17th if norris can win. this could be back to within the magical 25pts gap. i always say if you get it it to the final race like 1986 2007 & 2010. anything can happen

Overtake of the day for me was Verstappen on Lawson. He went by the RB like he wasn't even there. Incredible.

It showed how good it was because Piastri in the McLaren couldn't pass Lawson a short while later.

On another note, am I right in saying that RB the title of Lawson's team is short for Red Bull?

It's all over for Norris now.

A combination of his poor starts and the team not introducing orders soon enough.
They lost so many races from Canada , Silverstone , Spa , Monza , Austria they should have well won

Mclaren - really today I don't think it would have mattered if they did not pit Norris but strange their car had no pace for wet weather

If only Verstappen drives like this all the time then people would forget about his dirty tactics

Williams will be cursing
Alpine - how fortuitious for them today but a nice filip if only the idiots back in Paris can understand
Ferrari - what happened?
Mercedes - Russell is ahead of Hamilton but I think Lewis does not care anymore to be honest although finishing outside top 6 now

Perez - today must surely be it for him

Aston Martin - soldiering and sliding

That drive is very likely the one that secures Verstappen the title. It was fully deserved, as it was a brilliant performance, reminiscent of Zandvoort 2023, where in chaotic races, who is always at the front Max verstappen This is because while others make mistakes, he rarely does you dont see him going off track, which is why the last 2 weeks have been so disappointing. We all know he doesn't need to resort to dirty tactics & it's frustrating that a man of his talent feels the need to tarnish his legacy.

with the sprint in qatar i think it is game set & match, barring some kimi 2007 miracle. as l think all max has to do is finish ahead of norris to clinch the title.Norris made too many individual mistakes today, outbraking himself a couple of times which loses him positions & then tyre temperature. He couldn't make any progress due to the wrong setup on the car, which made it slow in a straight line. I can't blame McLaren or Mercedes for the red flag because if it was due to weather, yes. But it wasn't, and a car could have crashed like that at any time. It just happened at the worst possible time for Lando and George. If it hadn't, those 3 would have needed to pit again.

brilliant from the FIA to leave them out & let them race as much as they can in wet conditions. i know many say its "too dangerous" but it was like watching a 90's or 00's F1 race at times. & what a weekend of alpine 50m 9th to 6th. even if ocon will see none of it LOL

Did Max win at Interlagos in the rain, going from a starting position of 17 to win the race by at least 19 seconds, passing all those cars in the rain, yes. Did this win absolutely guarantee him the 2024 world championship for the 4th time in a row, yes. Is he a great driver, yes. But does anybody really like him? Do you root for him? Well not me. My favorite current driver is Oscar Piastri, who will take over the sport when Max is done. I'll say it again, don't you want to just smack that smirk off Max's face, especially when he wins? Lewis Hamilton is about done, yes? Fernando Alonzo is a miracle at 43-years-old, even though he doesn't come near to winning, yes? Is Franco Calapinto a great young driver, yes? Let's see what happens in the next few years. BTW, that Sainz was demoted to Williams when he should have been kept by Ferrari is a shame. Why doesn't Perez get fired by Red Bull whent they could get a driver like Sainz, even for just a couple of years? End of RANT.

Dud Verstappen benefit from the red flag ? Yes but I don't think it would have mattered he would have won anway or come 2nd such was his pace in the rain. This season has been so many missed opportunities for Mclaren and Norris. He will need to come back stronger.

Verstappen 's bad period has gone along with Mercedes decline means it should be fairly straightforward for him to be champ
