Head To Head Sebastian Vettel vs Daniel Ricciardo

I will ask once again, why does the car work for Dan but not for Seb?

We have to assume that the cars are the same, so it must be down to driver style?

Should one assume that the cars are 'slightly different', so why hasn't Seb commandeered Dan's car/new bits as he did with Webber?

Could RBR actually be running a 'no number one policy'?

Go on, give me gyp!!

- Obviously the EBD style cars really helped Vettel's style but he has had to go back to his odd style when dealing with the harsher torque of turbos

- Red Bull won;t run a number 1 policy because Helmut Marko wants Ricciardo to show he is the right driver to be promoted whilst poor old Vergne seems to be the victim of endless Toro Rosso breakages

This talk of car breaking makes me think about other comments about Vettel's driving style, which the team have publically said he will need to change to get on terms this year and which Vettel has conceded similarly. The driving style we talk about relates to how he likes to throw the car into corners with a bit of over-run. This in the past charged the exhaust blown diffuser and gave him more downforce through the corner. In the current formula, doing so would be detriment to the way the engines work in harvesting power under braking whilst limiting over-run on the engine. Essentially Seb is fighting the engine and the harvesting unit rather than feeding it. This could well be the root of all of his problems which are all seemingly related to the power plant.

it does not help him that the engine is down on power

For as long as Red Bull have been using Renault engines they've complained about them being down on power yet I don't see any evidence of it hindering them in the past... smoke and mirrors to hide Vettel's under-performance this year.

Yes, the Mercedes team are faster but it isn't all down to the engine. Red Bull are still faster than Ferrari and most of the other Mercedes powered teams.

The Renault power unit of years past was down on power ... but not by as much as it is in 2014 imho... Merc have just done a much better job with the regulations changes .... plus in years past RBR had the best package overall and when you bang it on pole, and slip off down the road by 1.4 seconds after lap one ... having less power down the straights is more than counter-balanced by being faster through the corners ... usually 15-20 of them during a lap ... this season the Merc has got it all ... a great chassis and driveable power unit ...

I think there was one person at Monaco ... out on a yacht watching proceedings musing on the season so far wondering why all of Seb's bad luck from the past five seasons has arrived in the first six races of this season... eh Mark >:(

DR is doing a great job ... he has such a smooth driving style in this years RBR ... Seb will get the rub of the green soon ... and I fully expect him to be up with and fighting DR consistently once they get their equipment sorted ... but then again ... a knock on RBR over the past few seasons has been their inability to consistently get two packages tickety boo for each event ... and we need to keep track of equipment usage under the new regulations ... because there are likely going to be penalties or reinstalling previously installed components (which might not be to the latest upgraded spec) used in upcoming races that will penalize previous failures ...

And Seb used another MGU-K and CU-K (not sure if that is considered the CE or not) after qually ... will await the updated component usage Tech Delegates report at Montreal Thursday week ... and whether the turbo issue that forced his retirement necessitates another TC unit to be drawn from his allowance ...

Apart from Bahrain, Australia, Britain, Hungary and Korea in 2010, that is.

It could be argued that Vettel brought the Britain problems on himself and also that he had the team so fully behind him that they sacrificed Webber for him in the season closer.
