Qualifying restructured

Can anyone explain what exactly was wrong with the drivers having a free for all to set their fastest time during the 1 hour session? Do those who complain about the lack of on track action in the first 20 or so minutes enjoy the 1 hour build up program before hand?

iI was just thinking that
Why it would give a mixed grid the same as any qually system in changeable weather.

if the order of q2 laps is dependant on q1 times, changeable weather cogld lead to q1 not having any running. Unless you still drop the last 5 cars, then the fastest driver can choose his slot for q2.

Use Formula E's system.

4 groups if 6/5 runners picked randomly get an unlimited 15 min session. Top 5 after all sessions are finished get a one lap shoot out session to decide poll.

Why not practice4/ set up for 30min-45 min free tyres but only one type, not part of your allowance, then straight into 1 lap shoot out on a new tyre of your choice, it's yours to start or use, but you must use, rain or not, unless qualifying is on wets.

Grid order by difference to team mate's lap time. If you're slower than your team mate you can't start above 12th. Huge loop holes for team orders and would completely ruin a lot of potential battles in the race, so exactly what F1 is looking for. Also, big middle finger to pay drivers.

Grid for Bahrain:
1 Ericsson
2 Ricciardo
3 Wehrlein
4 Hulkenberg
5 Magnussen
6 Vettel
7 Grosjean
8 Hamilton
9 Vandoorne
10 Verstappen
11 Bottas
12 Massa
13 Sainz
14 Button
15 Rosberg
16 Gutierrez
17 Raikkonen
18 Palmer
19 Perez
20 Haryanto
21 Kvyat
22 Nasr

I'll get on the phone to Bernie now.

I can actually forgive them the aggerate time thing back in 2005 as it fitted more with old system. .... ..... ..... ..... Bernie wasn't quite as nuts as he is now, the TV bomb had not exploded and the manufacturers had not moved in on the sport as a big advert for their brand(although plenty of team politics).

Simpler times. All F1 was trying to do then was change the rules to stop Ferrari winning.

And so the 'change the rules to stop things' began in earnest; and they've been trying to stop things rather than trying to improve things ever since!
