Grand Prix 2024 Qatar Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Cling on to your undies and keep those moist towelettes on standby folks, the next thrilling edition of the 2024 Formula One season is about to smack us in the chops.

Fun filled and joyous Qatar hosts the 23rd race of the season and I know you just can't wait.

Qatar has the 8th highest nominal GDP per capita in the world and its approximately 310000 citizens are well looked after by the roughly 2.7 million expats and migrant workers who also live in their country. As a Middle Eastern state the sun shines all year round and it rarely rains which means you don't often see rainbows.

The track itself has some straight bits and some corners, goes around in a big loop and has a start finish line. The usual experience.

Fans across the world are on the edge of their seats, nails bitten to the quick, as we all wonder who will clinch the prized world constructors title.

Many questions may be answered this weekend.

Will Christian Horner concede Perez is awful and without Newey Red Bull are screwed?

Since Danica Patrick hosted a podcast talking about rich, powerful people being alien lizards, why has Damon Hill chosen to retire from Sky TV's coverage?

Will a mechanic at the lower end of the grid accidentally run over Ted Kravitz with a forklift and wipe that smug grin off his face?

Will McLaren try a different tactic by starting Lando on the grid facing backwards because that's the direction he seems to take off the line and this time he may actually gain a place?

Will Lewis Hamilton just say sod it and punch Max Verstappen in the balls?

Come Sunday afternoon, we'll find out.

I'm busy both Saturday and Sunday but I'm sure some of you will tune in.

Here are your weekend timings;

Having seen the highlights, how did the stewards not know the wing mirror was there ?
Moronic

It messed the whole race the only people laughing are Verstappen and Red Bull fans talking about karma and back to their obnoxious ways

its all on mini sectors though isnt it. so it doesnt matter as long as in mini sector that double yellows are in, he lifted
Whilst I can’t see the mini sectors literally none of the drivers slowed down noticeably in the yellow flag zone. If you look at the major sectors, all the drivers were going as fast during the yellow flag, as in previous laps.

The stewards only investigated because Red Bull went to the stewards to complain.

Yeah but no one was complaining about Ferrari you see.
Literally none of the drivers slowed down for the yellow flags. It is an absolute farce. Either there needs to be a set amount that drivers slow down by, (e.g. localised VSC), and you penalise everyone, or you can’t penalise anyone. You can’t just penalise one driver when everyone’s breaking the rules.

Fascinating fact, the under fire head of the FIA is from the UAE and after its longest ever F1 season, the last race of 2024 is in Abu Dhabi which is part of the UAE.

In other news, thanks to the penalty for Norris, the constructors title goes down to the last race of the season in a battle between Ferrari and McLaren.

A quick "Did you know?"

Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is home to Ferrari World, the world's first Ferrari themed park.

Now, as I said a few posts ago, I hate conspiracy theories. The facts above are posted simply because I found them interesting.

You absolutely have to be shitting me?

The penalty was for that Yellow coming on and the zone lasting at most a couple of hundred yards into the start of the turn 1 breaking zone where the light was clearly green.

So he had about a couple of tenths of a second to react and then 200 yards later he's on the breaks anyway.

That is beyond suspect.

The Verstappen fans are laughing

if there wasnt a man waving yellow flags then, mclaren have every right to be furious, i had been under the assumption that he had gone through a long stretch as double yellows were the along the whole straight

appartantly max is furious with george for saturday. this is issue with Red Bull, Verstappen & horner, ive rare seen such double standards. he's angry at russell for doing exactly, what max has done numerous times, including mexico & yesterday. he did to lando what george did to max

you know i think there is a conspiracy but it think you are on the wrong one, i wonder if the new director was trying the old mourinho tactics of the mid 00s. if chelsea played badly or lost important game. he would go nuts in the post match interviews so the back pages of newspapers where about him & not the match. i wonder if they knew they arguably made the biggest cock up since abu dhabi 2021. so you give out some ludicrous penalties so everyone discussing lewis & Norris. not their plan to leave it under double yellows at the only overtaking spot for 25 laps

Nah, because that wouldn't explain Verstappen's made up penalty after qualifying.

It may help to explain why they're not saying why the last race director was fired though.

Probably wouldn't agree to the plan.

Nice to see everyone is discussing a wonderful race filled with action, oh, hang on.

It's another clown show, again, no wonder Lando is furious, that was utter bullshit.

The mirrors are perspex so any sharp shards would have been from that (unlikely if it has a film back), or the carbon fibre.
