Mercedes and Ferrari in 'secret' Pirelli tyre tests

All the other teams were asked.....
And if they are testing new compounds....what is the advantage....

If the other teams agreed and proceeded, they would have unlikely used the 2013 car, as it's illegal to use a car that's under 3 years old.

What advantage did they get? Extra testing, they could have put on several development parts on their car, and further checked for niggling issues such as reliability etc.

How much do you think a team would pay to be given a 1000Km test? whatever that figure is times that by ten and hand that fine to Mercedes and make it count towards their allowed budget and even then they will be getting off lightly.

Let's not kid ourselves here.

If it was Red Bull or Ferrari, certain people would be calling for them to be DSQed from the championship.

Similarly, if it was McLaren, certain other people would have a different opinion.

Whatever is decided, I can guarantee that some people will be pleased and others pissed off.

The thing is Mephistopheles if the test was sanctioned by the FIA then Mercedes will have nothing to worry about i would imagine. If not then whatever punishment would be handed to Mercedes would be fully deserved. It is just part of F1. How boring would F1 be without a bit of controversy.

Unlikely unless they went on to win the Monaco GP. Whatever team it is and however unfair it is, if its in Pirelli's contract and the FIA gave written permission then Mercedes can't be punished surely?

Either way its the FIA not Pirelli or Mercedes. Don't forget this apparent written agreement. The FIA are the governing body not Mercedes. They should pay compensation to the other teams for complete inconsistency and contradictions.

The Stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix received protests from Infinity Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari concerning an alleged breach of Article 22.4 h) (Track and Wind Tunnel Testing) of the FIA Formula One Sporting regulations by Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

The stewards summoned representatives of the protesting teams, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team and Pirelli.

After hearing and collecting information the Stewards will write a report to the FIA who may bring the matter before the International Tribunal.

I'm still struggling to understand why Mercedes would use a newer-than-2010 car when they clearly knew what the rules are. It simply isn't worth the risk. There has got to be more to this story than what we already know surely?
