Manor Motorsport

When F3 team Manor Motorsport were given a place on the F1 grid in 2010 they commissioned Wirth Research to build them a car. Brawn sponsor Virgin became title sponsor and Virgin Racing was born

Virgin Racing

With Cosworth engines, Xtrac gearboxes and drivers Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi Virgin Racing embarked on their first F1 season. The VR01 chassis was the first ever F1 designed entirely using CFD, with designer Nick Wirth believing computer simulations were sufficient to not need expensive wind tunnel testing.

Inevitably the team had reliability issues early on and they also discovered the fuel tank on the car wasn't sufficiently large enough to allow the team to complete full race distance. Wirth Research got a dispensation from the FIA to homologate a new chassis and by Spain both cars finished the race.

The team regularly finished races but barely troubled the mid-field. By seasons end the team were placed 12th and last in the Constructors Championship based on a count back of minor placing’s having managed a highest finish of 14th.

2011

Russian carmaker Marussia have taken a controlling interest in the team for 2011 and Belgian Jerome d’Ambrosio replaces Lucas di Grassi. With the VR02 chassis Virgin will be hoping to move further up the grid in 2011.

While we're on the subject of Honda, I wonder who they'll end up supplying from 2016? It could be Marussia-Honda this time next year.

Ah, yeah, it's still on the books for now because I guess they can't be arsed to go through another vote but I guess next year they'll be Manor or OVO or what ever.

On the driver front by the way the strong rumour was that due to their continued technical relationship with Mclaren it was going to be KMag. Obviously thats out the window at the moment.

Appears to be a toss up between Roberto Mehri and Van Der Garde.

Maybe Manor could lend McLaren their Ferrari engines for a few races in exchange for KMag's services :snigger:

Van Der Garde and Mehri both come with sponsorship. I'd rather them go with Mehri as despite not having the F1 experience he has a far more succesful previous career.

On the subject of OVO energy suppliers, as a yearly find the cheapest shopper of energy products, OVO is this years swop for me. I had never heard of them either. But I believe if they fall over my energy will just be switched to the local suppliers whilst the mess is sorted.
However they are supposed to have green credentials. Now although I'm an avid F1 fan, I wouldn't call it a green sport, so I am a little surprised to find OVO in F1
supporting Marrusia.
:disappointed:
It has all been very simple and upfront with them so far (OVO). Monthly online readings, comparison charts, lower bills than last year.
But what happens when all the money has been eaten by Marrusia.
Not a happy bunny.

Then the press shouldn't tout that it is OVO that is putting in the money should they, it is a private investor and the team will never bear the logo OVO...

Ok, im up for that.

I would point out that my only interaction with Justin involved me hitting him with my rucksack whilst exiting the gents toilets. As such my insight is only likely to go so far as:

"When asked, justin quoted " get out of my way, peon" and made himself unavailable for curther comme t"
