Pre-Season 2020 Testing and Car Launches

Is the DAS is giving Merc an advantage which they are happy to sell by the way then the season might be over before it started. There is still another test remember how Ferrari blitzed everyone but Mercedes understood what they needed to do and closed the gap gradually until Melbourne when they showed they were much more ready than everyone thought

I would assume that Mercedes will be able to create the same effect without moving the steering column in and out, just needs a bit of outside the box thinking on the steering rack or other steering mechanism that will be perfectly legal.

this is fascinating, about how sandbagging is pointless because they know where every is already,

this from the 1st paragraph
“You can’t learn anything from laptimes during testing, This phrase is often heard during the winter and repeated so often that it has become more or less accepted as fact. But is it true? Try telling it to the Team Strategists and see their response."

"Far from discounting testing time analysis as meaningless, every team in the pitlane pores over the data as it emerges in order to build up a picture of the competitive pecking order. Using techniques that have been built up over a number of seasons it is possible to figure out, with surprising accuracy, what lies beneath the headline laptimes that we see during winter testing"

whether its mind games or honesty. but the talk from james allison & mercedes. seriously worries me. i think they are very capable to repeating there start to 2019. but this time they will win them 1st 8 on merit not on reliability issues

i know this is ridiculous because i want to Lewis Hamilton to be successful & this should be very optimistic. but i want him to win it in November not June. it will have been 8 yrs since the last, finale between rival teams. but im sick to death of mercedes domination. & it wouldnt be so bad if it teammates like prost/senna. but its not its more Schumacher/Lehto. Bottas isnt good enough to put up a entertaining challenge

Well, I do wonder if everyone on the grid is starting to plan for 2021 (the budget cap era), and really not trying to compete with Mercedes. Just writing this season off....because it will be easier to compete against Mercedes with them not able to outspend everyone (which they have been for a while). Concentrate on getting as much development done now so you can go into 2021 with a leg up.

Ruslan maybe out mercedes at their own game

Well, supposedly Mercedes spent something like a staggering $700 million on the new hybrid engine when it first came out, and showed up with something that no one could match. It took years for anyone else to get close.

This is the last year that someone can pour significant money in future designs. After that the budget cap kicks in. So.......now is the chance to get an advantage that may last for several years. I am sure Mercedes, with it plush budgets, is doing the same thing.

F1Brits_90 - that's a classic!

I seem to remember something very similar being said last year about Ferrari. If Mercedes don't walk away with the title this year, it will only be because Bottas and Hamilton have crashed into each other too many times...

i hope kubica was full of fuel yesterday, because otherwise it going to be a tough year for alfa Romeo as Kubica's 1:16.9 on C5 tyre, stroll just done a lap 1 & half tenths slower on C3.

then another you hope are sandbagging are Ferrari or Racing point are doing low fuel. because vettel did short run on C3 was 4 tenths slower than stroll & then another short run on C4 matched that same stroll C3 time. if hypothetically ferrrari are 4 tenths off racing point in melbourne. binotto wont last the season

My general feeling is that the top 3 works aren't showing their true form. They are running on an 80-90% only and working on reliability while testing race paces.
