Pretty sure it'll be Ricciardo, but Alonso would be a 'delicious' option, and would dispel any questions about Vettel one way or the other.

He lost to some Russian guy in 2010 who unfortunately has had appalling luck in moving his career forward - Mikhail Aleshin

2011 Ricciardo competed half the season including winning MOnaco World series race

Alonso has many reasons to upset the apple cart, both at red bull and Ferrari.

My opinion, he is stirring the hornets nest, as he thinks he is in a no lose situation. Attempt to get under vettels skin, put a rocket under the Ferrari team, from what he likely feels is a position of strength. I do not think he will be at red bull for 2014, however, I think we could see a swap in 2015.

I agree The Pits, the only sequence of events where I can see Alonso ending up at Red Bull is:

1) Ricciardo gets the 2014 seat (I don't see an Alonso/Raikkonen partnership happening).
2) Neither Alonso or Vettel win the 2014 WDC (otherwise why would they move?)
3) Alonso and Vettel swap places for 2015.

I think it's very unlikely though and I'm not sure Alonso is a character match for Red Bull.

Maybe everyone expects Redbull to have a bottomless money bag but I am sure they must be taking the drivers salary into account in making this decision.

Alonso would undoubtedly be the most expensive he is paid $20 million by Ferrari
Kimi is on just $3 million
Ricciardo would drive for them for a Mars bar and a bag of crisps.

The money is I feel a significant factor, but maybe only if the money bag isn't bottomless (how can it be). Would Alonso warrant spending an extra $17 million on 'advertising' over Kimi ? And how many tins of pop do they sell to afford to run a F1 team as well as all the other extreme sport stuff they sponsor. Seriously how does Redbull make so much money. I don't know anyone that drinks it.

Alonso has Santander's backing who are his de facto paymasters so money shouldn't be a problem. He took them to Ferrari when he left McLaren and they will likely follow him to Redbull if it happens. This is one of the major reasons Ferrari were able to pay Kimi off and recruit Alonso otherwise it would've been financial suicide even for a team of Ferrari's stature.

But why would Red Bull want to have Santander as their title sponsor? The team exists to promote the drinks brand not a bank.

Why not. Promoting your own brand and having a title sponsor are not mutually exclusive. Redbull are already doing this with Infiniti.

But Infiniti are part of Renault so there is a clear link to the team. I'm not saying Red Bull won't want a title sponsor I just think it unlikely. Anyway, the red colour would cock up the Red Bull colour scheme :D

Kimi's personal sponsor is Red Bull and always has been and thats never been in the name of any of his teams....yet.

Agree Kimi despite his whopping salary at Ferrari had personal sponsors with Red Bull and was paid more than Loeb doing rallying

Kimi does deserve a pay rise and if it comes down to money Red Bull will pay more than Lotus for sure

Red Bull's image are suppose to reflect youth, sport, rebellion and fashionable. A bank does not fit into that image. You've got brands like Puma on the Red Bull livery

As for Alonso's wages which is $20m plus that might be a stumbling block especially if Vettel is on a similar salary. Alonso's move to Ferrari is also helped by Marlboro paying their bit of sponsorship towards his wages as well

I can't remember any trendy Spanish brands that might go with Red Bull unless they start playing on some El Matador theme for Alonso with the bull !
