Sky F1 2012

The opener did seem stiff but its a new program on a new channel they need time to loosen up. I'm looking forward to the dumbed down version of the technical advancements, I can come on here to get the fine details needed but I won't have to explain everything to the other half in terms that she can understand.

One thing I've not seen anything about is a format similar to the Forum after the races, I'm assuming there will be something but whether that matches up to the BBC's offering im not sure yet but we only have a few days to wait.

The F1 forum lost its pull for me when the teams stopped allowing the BBC to use thier motorhomes. They used to feel like guests of F1 but they soon became pests of F1.

I didn't know where else to put this so I'll post it here if a mod can find a better place then please move it

As some of you are aware I have just had Sky inserted.

I took the full package inc phone broadband and tv

I had to ring BT to get the mac code for the broadband, after I got through the stupid automated menu system the conversation went something like this.

BT: Hello how can I help you?

ME: Yes hello I would like to cancel my broadband please and I need the mac code.

BT: Okay sir, may I ask why you are canceling?

ME: Well I'm going to Sky because I want to watch the formula one and BT vision isn't showing it.

Bt: You do realise that the BBC are showing 10 of the races and extended highlights of all the others? (No shit sherlock!!)

ME: Yes but I want to watch them all live. (I'm starting to get exasperated now.)

BT: May I ask how much sky is charging you.

ME: 50 quid for the lot.

BT: Can you give me the break down on that?

ME: 30 quid for the TV £7.50 for the broadband and the rest is for the phone.

BT: At the moment you are paying £41.80 for your broadband and telephone package, I'll just see what we can do about that. (Phone goes quiet and some sound of keys tapping)

BT: Sorry to have kept you, as you are a loyal customer we can reduce your monthly bill to £20.00 per month would you be interested in that? (What the fuck!!!)

ME: No I'm not interested, can I have the mac code now please?

BT: We can only give you this offer as a loyal customer if you leave and come back later you will be classed as a new customer.

Me: Yes I understand can I have the mac code now please?

BT: are you sure sir.

ME: Yes.

BT: I will just generate one for you now, do you have a pen and paper?

Cheeky bastards have been overcharging me for over two years and then expect me to be happy when they say as such.

Sky have launched their live section and race control centre: http://www1.skysports.com/formula1/live/

Yeah, nice one Sky.
So I can watch the F1 HD channel but I can't access the F1 content on the website as I don't have the sports package?

Have to say, putting the fact we now have ads in practice, it was a decent start. Felt like nothing had changed. The coverage pre-race was pretty pointless filler as I suspected, but at least I won't feel like I've missed anything by tuning in 5 mins before commentary starts. Good to hear Crofty and Ant again. Guess we'll have to get use to the ads. :(

Ads during practice sessions are tolerable. It's GP ads that are maddening, and I understand they wont have those.

I don't think I'll miss Maurice Hamilton that much either.

I'll hardly be watching it at all this season for various reasons, but mainly due to the Sky coverage. I figured that if I can't watch all the races on the BBC then there isn't any point watching any of them at all. It's like starting to watch LOST in the middle of Series 2.
