Head To Head Jenson Button vs Lewis Hamilton

There is no battle there is no war there are two drivers who have a different fan base for different reasons to be honest I don't even know where the conflict comes from....

As Prost once said "Support Ayrton by all means, just don't hate me."

I only threw that other comment in as a tongue in cheek comment really. As IMHO Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton have been a very good combination at Mclaren, however it was hard at time to keep them both happy. Which is why i'm glad that Lewis is moving to pastures new so Mclaren can focus all they attention on making Jenson a 2 times F1 world champion.

Actually in the end it's maybe about championshipplaces (instead of points as I mentioned earlier):
Button: 2nd, 5th, 5th
Hamilton: 4th, 4th, 5th

But still I'd say Hamilton is a better driver than Button. Button did much better than I expected him to do at McLaren. In the end over the past three years he gets the job done roughly as good as Hamilton. Although Hamilton was kinda unlucky this year.

The fact that Jenson has finished only 2pts behind Lewis this year is the best evidence you will ever find that the WDC doesn't even come close to giving the whole story when it comes to comparing team mates.

Especially when you consider the mishaps that Lewis had suffered this season, which removed him at the end from becoming a serious challenger for the 2012 WDC, while Jenson this season, except for the first couple of races, really wasn't in the running.

@il leone do you seriously think Hamilton left McLaren because he thinks Button is too good for him? ROFL
Lewis loves nothing more than a challenge, in his view that comes from Alonso, and he relishes it, he doesn't run from it.

Not sure if anyone has done this
Hamilton ; 10 wins , 22 podiums, 9 poles ,9 fastest laps, 657 points,
Button; 8 wins , 25 podiums, 1 pole, 6 fastest laps , 672 points

@racerub

Part of the reason because Button is fast enough to take away points ...Hamilton knows for him staying at Mclaren would not help his reputation any further if he wants to beat Vettel and Alonso

Yes he relishes a challenge the Mercedes challenge will be good for his career if he turns them into a consistent front runner.. you would think he could. Mercedes are expecting a lot better than what they've shown now and so is Hamilton based on the promises he's been sold.... I hope for his sake they come true and he is not sold a dud

@racerub

It has been well documented that the Mclaren engineers warm better to Jenson's calmer approach rather than Lewis' sometimes more volatile approach to situations

I'll have to say money does come into it and I hope his management have not badly advised him so they can financially profit

I will agree Lewis has had more misfortune this season much in the same way Senna was devastatingly quicker than Prost in 1989 but lost the title due to reliability woes

Really Hamilton could have been in with a title shout it has to be said

lewymp4

Do you think if Lewis' teammate was Kovalainen he would make the same decision then?

Button will always be remembered as the first driver to beat Hamilton as teammates

Last night (Saturday) I met someone in a pub who is into data crunching and forecasting, he is currently working on a project for McLaren. He never mentioned anything about Hamilton not being as well liked as Button. But then I don't have anything that could be used as acceptable evidence on here so I won't talk about what we discussed.
