Grand Prix 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Martin Brundle, for many years, didn't attend the Hungarian Grand Prix. Why was this I hear you ask, and even if you didn't I'm going to tell you!

Hungary was, for many years, a Communist state aligned with the Warsaw Pact and staunch supporter of the Soviet Union. In 1956 the people of Hungary got a bit naffed off with making shoes in one factory and then sending them next door for them to be taken apart, or spending a week digging ditches, and then spending the next week filling them in again, but hey the Polit Bureau had targets to meet. Anyway, I digress in to the detail of the pointlessness of Communist, centralised dictat and it's affect on the proletariat, back to 1956.

Students marched through Budapest to object to Communist rule. They started in Buda and finished in Pest, although it might have been the other way round. Now the Russians weren't all that well disposed to the Hungarians anyway as they sided with the Germans in WW2 and helped in the invasion of the Motherland. And they really took umbridge at this bunch of upstarts objecting to having a dictator imposed on them from Moscow, so between the Russians and Hungarian Communists it was decided that these student should be made to be quiet.

We used to have such student protest here in the UK but they now spend so much time depressed and worrying about the huge debts they are racking up by going to University they don't have the energy to moan about anything other than the price of a Mojito or Porn Star Martini in the student union bar.

I'm wandering again.

Rather than pop outside their offices and ask the students politely if they would mind buggering off home as it was a bit noisy and no one else seemed to really care, and even if they did they knew better as they would be whisked off to a gulag and have electrodes attached to their testicles, the powers that be decided to go all Tiananmen Square on the protesters before the Chinese had even thought of it. There's nothing new under the sun I tells ya!

The tanks went in and battles between the Soviet forces and Hungarian militia raged. This, presumably, was seen as a reasonable alternative to sitting down with the protesters, discussing their issues and seeing how the lives of ordinary people could be improved to the point where they didn't want to grab a gun and shoot all and any members of the Communist Party.

I'm sure you are wondering what all this has to do with Martin Brundle. Well back then he wasn't good old, grid walking Martin Brundle of which ever TV channel had just parted with a Kings ransom to show the meagre fare that is modern Formula One. Oh no, back then he was Martinov Brundelski, ice cream maker and frozen dessert entrepreneur. During the uprising, which was over the summer , Martinov sensed an opportunity to make a dime, or rouble, or whatever currency the Hungarian were using.

He packed up his Ice Cream van with his latest creations; acorn surprise, crab apple sorbet, plantain and pampas grass lollies, and the ever popular cows udders delight, and headed off to the big city to make his fortune. When he arrived it was a bit trickier than he had anticipated as he had to weave between T34 tanks, armoured personnel carriers and various howitzers, all the time with "Do you wanna be my lover" tinkling out from the vans bells to call the hot, hungry and thirsty revolutionaries to partake of his wares.

His ability to dart between tanks, avoid howitzer shells and still get two scoops of potato mash ice cream in to a cone for a burly fighter did not go unnoticed. Lurking in the dark recesses of the Polit Bureau offices was Bernardoff Ecclestonev, at that time just in the early stages of his meglomania, and he spotted that whoever this young man was he had a future as a racing driver.

Ecclestonev tracked the young Brundelski down and smuggled him over to Kings Lynn. There Martinov Brundelski changed his name to Martin Brundle, and to make his integration in to the local Community more legitimate brought his sister with him and married her shortly after arrival.

Since that day Martin Brundle, or Martinov Brundelski, has been unable to travel to Hungary for fear of having his nads liberated from the rest of his body by any of those who purchased some of his frozen desserts during the long, hot summer of 1956.

Enjoy the Grand Prix.

Some aspect of this story may have been fabricated for comic effect. This is not meant, in any way, to trivialise the death and suffering of those who lost their lives during the Hungarian uprising.

saw highlights on channel 4 today. although i know Steve Jones has been there for 4? years. but i was quite impressed with him considering that he came from T4. & with allan mcnish the pundit this weekend. im waiting for him to say yesterday well verstappen couldve won as if he had gone through the pits under the safety car he couldve overtaken everyone

seems alot of drivers were struggling with the wind today. Norris mentioned it & sainz doesnt blame it but says that data shows 1st Q2 lap was 11mph & when he crashed it was 35mph. & also it shows Russell quality that i was very shocked he didnt make Q2. as im just so used to him nailing that final run

lets get on to the main point. i thought that was very cheeky from Mercedes, If Christian horner was upset, i could certainly see his point. because it looked very much like he was trying time red bull out & the way hamilton was far too slow, creeping down the pit lane & down to turn 1. raised alarm bells with me nevermind. the paranoia that will be in the red bull garage.

i understand toto said that they shouldve overtake us. like we wouldve in same situation. but you dont expect what could be taken as gamesmanship & Lewis was running the risk of losing the pole time because i thought their was a minimum outlap time, after the farce of monza 2019. now cant be accurate but think the timing said 2.30 as he was going down the pit lane & he got over the line with 9 secs left, it was shown because he did a 1.18:1 & no shock tyres wouldve been like on ice

Perez did not have time for the second attempt, because RB outplayed themselves
by delaying the exit of their drivers and due to the fact that before the last corner
on the out lap he strongly let Verstappen go ahead.
But the RB are already used to blaming anyone but themselves for their problems.

looks like we are in for a dry race, after a very wet morning. with F3 race but storm has seemingly past as picture from 11am shows

what complete & utter Bottas move. what a :censored: idiot. quicker Mercedes put him out of his misery, the better. get George Russell in tha car someone with some racing talent

not a liability. who didnt think on wet track that could be slippery. maybe break earlier. instead of ramming Norris & single handedly causing chaos for rest of the grid

how on a wet track that will be slippery. does it not occur maybe brake abit earlier, thats not F1. that any wet road in any car

im so angry. bottas needed putting out of his misery after sakhir in 2020

although on slightly happier note i mistakenly thought it was 2010 all over again with Hamilton Alonso & Vettel top 3

And a great piece of teamwork from George Russell in all of that, another signal?

Ocon I thought did exceptionally well. Mercedes managed to sneak defeat from the jaws of victory at the start, but managed to get something out of the Race.

McLaren asking if Paul DiResta is available to take part in a joint "filming" day with Red Bull, demanding that Bottas be sent in to exile on Elba for the remainder of the season.

According to Ralf Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel was allowed to finish second by Lance Stroll to smooth over any team disruption.

Vettel could be DSQed for not having at least 1 litre of fuel in the car - only 0.3 litre.

Horner is currently using Albon to demonstrate how Hamilton used a remote control drone and a pipe to siphon the fuel out of Vettel's car.

They talked about that on Sky. The fuel in Vettel's car not the drone theory đŸ¤£ and said that rule only applies after qualifying.

According to the commentators if you run out a yard over the line after the race that's fine.

I must admit, I thought you had to have a bit of fuel in the tank after the race for testing purposes.

Who knows :dunno:

unfortunately for Seb, that’s a slam dunk disqualification.

Regulation 6.6.2 of the technical regulations is very clear:

Competitors must ensure that a 1.0 litre sample of fuel may be taken from the car at any time during the Event.

After a practice session, if a car has not been driven back to the pits under its own power, it will be required to supply the above mentioned sample plus the amount of fuel that would have been consumed to drive back to the pits. The additional amount of fuel will be determined by the FIA.
