With just over three days to go before the first test of the 2013 season, now is the time to start our first test thread.

The test calendar is as follows:

First Test
5 Feb Circuito de Jerez
6 Feb Circuito de Jerez
7 Feb Circuito de Jerez
8 Feb Circuito de Jerez

Second Test
19 Feb Circuit de Catalunya
20 Feb Circuit de Catalunya
21 Feb Circuit de Catalunya
22 Feb Circuit de Catalunya

Third Test
28 Feb Circuit de Catalunya
1 Mar Circuit de Catalunya
2 Mar Circuit de Catalunya
3 Mar Circuit de Catalunya

I doubt we'll see anything too interesting at the first test.
There is almost always some sandbagging going on and undoubtedly the cars we see next week aren't going to be the same cars which are at Catalunya in March, never mind Melbourne.

Still, after several barren months it will be nice to finally see read about some cars going round and round.

I'm not sure if Sky are showing the testing or not, ditto for BBC.
If anyone has any details of any legal ways of watching the testing, let me know and I'll add them to this post.

Apparently there will be a 15 minute round up on Sky F1 HD each day at 2100.

I don't think there are tv cameras at the tests. Watching the timings and text commentary on Autosport is normally the best we can expect.

I presume that Sky and BBC will have live text commentary of sorts, and sky will probably have a roundup show.

The big question is, how many teams will actually make the first test with anything like the car that they will be starting the season with. In the predictions thread I predicted that Marussia would score a point this season but since dropping Glock for the money option I think that's gone out of the window but it would show some sort of intent to progress if they could actually get a their cars to Spain. At lest one thing will be the same as the last couple of years, HRT won't be there again !!!

Rosberg is already on track in the new Mercedes.
Ahead of the official F1 W04 launch later today, the team has hired the Spanish venue for filming purposes.

Cue lots of frustrated journalists who can't get in to the circuit until 1100.

Perhaps this site will once again be doing testing updates: http://www.msfree.gr/

The Autosport page has the fastest times in the sidebar but I'm not aware of a site doing full timing.

Mercedes is currently fastest...

The number in brackets is the lap count for that driver and if there isn't a lap time it is usually an in, out or through the pitlane that is the cause. As far as I can tell there are hardly any lap times "missing". This time last year there were huge chunks of time lost so we are indeed fortunate... so far so good, touch wood. :)

It sounds like the reason Button stopped was because they did a standard "run out of petrol" test.

Just as the Mercedes did a "cook the bottom of the car" test.

If I were an F1 driver I know which one I would be happier with.
