2012 Season Preview

The teams have asked Bernie to look at the calendar again, due to logistical concerns.
Is there no discussion at all between the various parties before this sort of stuff is published?

I wish Bernie would discuss the calendar with me 1st as well! Does he not realise the effort that goes into producing the high quality table in the opening post!

To be honest though the calendar looks quite well planned logistically. The only difficult moves will be the Canadian detour in the European season but they do that every year anyway. The same with Austrailia and Malaysia.

Texas to Brazil in a week could be tricky but it won't be as hard as moving from Bahrain to Abu Dhabi!

I can't begin to express just how disappointed I am that Turkey is definitely off the calendar.

It's interesting that they've decided to put Bahrain back towards the start of the season, it seemed sensible to me for it to be as close to the end as possible (it looks like they've swapped it with India though, and there were reasons for not going to India in April if I remember correctly?).

I'm intrigued to see how the USA GP goes, I think it's good for the sport and makes for a more balanced calendar so it's just a matter of getting people interested and whether the circuit will be any good,

Yes, another pretty good circuit bites the dust...with the dire Sakir track back in.

Some hope, however, is provided by that new Circuit Of The Americas..."Deep In The Heart Of Texas"!

So there's good reason to believe that Turkey will be replaced by a great circuit and a great event - and much closer to me!

7 sets of back-to-back races (AUS/MAL, CHN/BAH, GER/HUN, BEL/ITA JAP/KOR IND/ABU, USA/BRA), and two three-week breaks (Bahrain/Spain, Italy/Singapore). They could have balanced out the calendar a bit more.

November is a much better date for Austin. It'll be a bit more comfortable than Dallas in July when F1 last visited Texas.

I'm wondering if a circuit really needs something like turns 13, 14/14A, 15...Seems 'Mickey Mouse" kinda. But who knows, it might be uphill-downhill and "challenging".

I too like the November date for temperature reasons. I can only imagine the Pirellis melting into puddles of rubber with the track temperature at 140 degrees F if the race were held a week or so after Montreal.

Plus I want enough time between Montreal and Austin to see both! One Grand Prix every 6 months sounds just about right!

I remember that race!

That was the race Keke won!

The circuit broke up like crumbling cookies and some Big Boys chucked it into walls on marbles and disintegrating tarmac.

Ahhh...Memories Of Youth!
