Football 2011/12 Football Season

The only payer that I remember getting criticised for it, was Cristiano Ronaldo back in the 2006 world cup or was it euro 2008? And guess who got sent off when he did it? None other than Wayne Rooney.

Jamie Redknapp launched into a 10 minute diatribe on Sky Sports on Tuesday night about Mancini waving an imaginary card...

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

It seemed harsh, but I don't expect City to win the appeal. Kompany didn't need to do it.

As for Rooney, he, John Terry and Frank Lampard have never done anything wrong on a football pitch ever.

The key phrase is that it has to be excessive force, and frankly it wasn't. Nani can be blown over by a gentle breeze...

However, City will not win the appeal (see: Milijas, Nenad).

Allegedly. (And you missed out the other two members of the Famous Five - Ashley Cole and Gerrard)

EDIT: From a mailer to F365, a nice reminder of the meaning of "excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent". Interestingly, note the referee's identity:

Can some one explain why everyone has got so excited about Arsenal scraping a tight win over a lower league team? Shouldn't Arsenal expect to thump a Championship side 3 or 4-0? And Henry scored against Leeds, woop de do!

Piers Morgan, in particular, had a go at Michael Owen because Henry scored. Owen, of course, scored twice at Elland Road in this year's Carling Cup!

At least the Dons have a crucial game in hand over the rest in league 1.....
By the way, FA cup replay against QPR is on Tuesday night, ITV4.

A fabulous match this afternoon from my two Premiership sides. Torn between head and heart for over 90 minutes but 5 goals and a stunning performance from The Swans has made my weekend.

Nice to see that two of the three teams that came up from the Championship doing so well, also think that Norwich City are playing well and Paul Lambert deserves a lot of credit to.

Another two horse race for the title after being hyped up rapidly for a great battle between several teams.

Disappointing as usual.

I don't consider Tottenham a title challenger as I feel they will fade away since only their starting 11 is strong, however I have always liked them back in the of Martin Jol, and will be supporting them for the title.

If Spurs can win away at Man City next week, anything is possible. Otherwise it is going to be very difficult for us. Still, third or even fourth would be a fantastic season (and put us in the market for a top quality manager in the summer).
