Le Mans 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours

Matthew Little

Points Scorer
If the beginning of the international motorsports is said to begin with the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the end of the calendar is said to be when Formula 1's season wraps up for the year, then it might be a safe bet to assume that the mid-point is when teams and drivers from near and far gather on eight miles of French blacktop for the annual twice-around-the-clock endurance classic. With numerous marques such as Audi, Peugeot, Ford, Ferrari, Honda, Porsche, BMW and Chevrolet among others, it once again promises to be a shootout among the sport's best.

*Makes note to self.............have plenty of coffee and caffeine ready for the weekend.........* :) :givemestrength: :o :givemestrength: :goodday:

I'll definitely be dipping my toe in and out of the proceedings over the weekend.

I think Le Mans is something you really need to experience in the flesh though as that certain something gets lost when it's translated through the medium of TV.

There's at least 1 member who will be there this weekend, as he is every year, enjoying his chips with ketchup and mayonnaise :D

I'll have the widescreen locked on SpeedChannel the whole weekend for the 24 Hours, timing & scoring up and Radio LeMans up as well...............I figure I won't get any sleep for most of the weekend; knowing my luck, I'll make it through LeMans only to sleep through the Canadian Grand Prix............. :o :o :o

I've been to Daytona for the Rolex 24 a few times but as all my friends have said over the years, "You have got to go to LeMans at least once in your life......." I might have to listen to them for once.............. :D

Anyway, by all accounts it should be a great race, but then again, aren't all the great races great anyway? ;)

I'm too old for all-nighters these days :D
Hence why I'll just be watching as and when I can.

I suppose I could record it but it would take 3 days to watch it at 8 hours a day LOL

The BMW M3s have had their restrictors, err, restricted in an effort to reduce their performance.

The inlet has been reduced in size by a massive four tenths of a millimetre which will reduce the engine's peak power by 10bhp.

Oh and in case anyone's interested, this is what the cars look like :D

LM24: GT1/GT2 Preview

SpeedTV's John Dagys has a preview of the GT1 and GT2 classes for this year's LeMans 24. Interesting article.......2 things of note:
1--GT1 is wide-open this year(any of the eight entries could win)
2--GT2 is going to be, next to LMP1, the most exciting class as seven manufacturers(Chevrolet, BMW, Ferrari, Spyker, Aston Martin, Porsche and Jaguar) are represented.

As the saying goes.................Release the hounds!!! :givemestrength: :givemestrength: 8-) :o :o

I'm fast developing a soft spot for Chevrolet. Having spent two weeks driving one as a hire car during our recent holiday in Florida I actually grew to quite like it to the point where I actually wanted one.

:o

I caught the tail end of the qualifying on Eurosport.

They really need to sort their coverage though as all they were showing were shots of the pit wall and the crews asleep in the garage.

This is why Le Mans doesn't really work for me, the TV coverage does it no justice at all.

Radio LeMans

If anyone's interested, Radio LeMans will be simulcasting its' broadcast of the LeMans 24 over the internets; there's a link towards the top of the page for anyone who wants to listen(look for where it says "Listen Live")..............

Here and here are the spotter guides for the race(the first page displays LMP1 and LMP2 entries, the second page displays GT1 and GT2 entries).
