Grand Prix 2025 Canadian Grand Prix

Oh Canada, its incredibly the 10th round already. you know looking the championship its alot closer that it probably should be because Piastri has won 5 races compared to Norris & Verstappen's 2. & yet he only has a 10 point lead coming into this weekend's race Whether that says more about Oscar's inconsistency, & lando being better than we give him credit for, it's clear that this title fight isn't going to be ran away with just yet.

Canada has given us classics, chaos, and controversy in equal measure. in my opinion the greatest F1 race of all time the 2011 canadian GP. Vettel furious at 5 second penalty in 2019 & the rain last year. its a favourite of mine not quite a street circuit, but not a traditional track either, its fast, tight & unforgiving. this weekend its looking to be pretty dry all weekend

now onto the 2 big talking point of the week. Max verstappen has to keep his nose clean for not 1 but 2 races as if he get just the 1 penalty point, which can be for anything minor. he is banned become 3rd driver to reach 12 points, wasnt it Grosjean & Magnussen? im expecting him to miss austria or britain, as just cant see him keep it clean for 2 races its not in his nature. especially as Red Bull ring is the scene of most of his crimes the last few years as im sure he had a collision 3 times in austria since 2019

now for mystery of Lance stroll. im starting to believe that both things can be true at the same time. lance did worsen an already existing injury in the heat of the moment & Lawrence Stroll wasn’t happy with the behaviour post Q2, so they used the injury as both a recovery & cooling-off period

In the UK some nice prime time fathers day viewing, at 7pm. following the le mans 24 hours in the afternoon

Canada is the weather hot or wet ? Last year the race was wide open and should have been Russell's or Norris' but both fluffed their pitstop timing and allowed Verstappen to steal it

The race itself is not as exciting as it use to be

The wall of champions use to be a real challenge because of the heavy braking then turn right avoiding the kerb and then straightening for the straight whilst avoiding the wall

The kerb is lower and now with run off drivers tend to get away with errors now reducing the less chance of the safety car

The heavy braking does test the reliability . The rookies who have not been on this circuit could get found out this weekend

Not really. Its more down to Oscar's 9th place finish in Australia as a result of probably his only major driving error.

Both drivers are doing well but since Australia, Oscar has never been off the podium and is the only driver to win back to back races.

It just shows that one mistake can up end the points quite drastically.

Day 1, practice 1 but an unusually quiet performance from the McLaren lads.

Sign of a difficult weekend or more of a testing session?

Surprise Mclaren not on it yet

Ferrari with Leclerc crashing was the last thing they needed as he basically has lost 2 sessions

Mercedes - is this one of the tracks where they show up?

Red Bull - I was not surprised that they have brake issues

Aston Martin - Stroll crashing thickens the plot about his wrist injury

allegedly he punched a wall. which is why i believe that they are telling the truth but not the whole truth

I hope Max has a clean race weekend and doesn't get any penalty point, which would rule him out for the Austrian GP.
I hope he does because max is box office. but cant see him being squeeky clean for 2 races

Curious.

Piastri's previous Canadian GP results of 11th and 5th (Norris's last two were 13th and 2nd) suggest it may not be such a happy hunting ground for him.

Well that didn't quite go as expected

Norris suffering under pressure again. I think he needs a good sports psychologist.

What a lap from George Russell though.

I thought this could be huge qualifying session for title race. & it was just opposite way i expected. that another time when he has to deliver. he underperformed. radio messages were a worry them trying to coach him

Russell & Verstappen collide in spain. so brilliant that Russell & Verstappen on front row in Canada. the f1 movie couldnt write a better script, im fascinated to see max's approach with him walking that tightrope.

“I’ve got a few more points on my license to play with.” might be the line of the season from george LOL

You know Russell should really hold his line knowing Verstappen is not going to risk it

A caution is Mercedes used the medium tyres to get ahead

Piastri could well take advantage

Antonelli - 4th position but I expect him to fall back given the hard nature of the track on brakes

Hamilton - I can't believe Ferrari did not put him on the medium tyres but maybe it is good thing for the race

Alonso - the Newey effect surely as he used up a lot of medium tyres so expect to fall back in the race

Norris - WTF - Really not a good place to be - how do you go from fastest in FP3 to qualifying 7th !

Leclerc - that would have been an amazing performance if he stuck it on pole .

Hadjar - another excellent quali first time at the track but why has not he got a penalty for blocking Sainz?

Albon - disappointing if you consider this is the kind of track they like

Other mentions

Tsunoda - a stupid penalty but it was like Red Bull resigned to him to starting last again and did not bother giving him medium tyres for Q3

This is another long race for Yuki

Colapinto -That is the creditable performance to start 12th

Sainz - a completely missed opportunity to get into Q3

Stroll - well ..was anyone expecting miracles from him

Gasly - Surely the Alpine is not as bad as that

i wouldn't have taken any action on either red flag FP3 incident

sauber on Haas, not much he couldve done as braking distances dont get shorter when a red flag comes out

tsundoda on piastri is unrealistic. is any driver in that situation supposed to line up behind a quite slow moving piastri. like rush hour traffic

I can't believe that Piastri wasn't penalized for driving an obviously damaged car back to the pits. Similarly, I couldn't believe that Albon wasn't penalized for driving a disintegrating Williams during Q1... Yet, Tsunoda, who overtook Piastri, who was driving eratically slowly, was penalised.

Madness.

I actually quite enjoyed that.

Large tip of the hat :goodday: to Kimi Antonelli for pulling off a great move at the start and for keeping it all together.

Until Lando's rush of blood, it was still a really open race for the podium spots with even a rare chance that first place wasn't a given. That's all I ask from a GP.

Lando has now equalised Oscars error from Australia. The results represent their true status at this stage of the season with Oscar clearly the better of the two.

I thought it was a turd race given the usual expectations of Canada

Ferrari once again stuffed Hamilton by putting him in traffic when running with the front guys
Leclerc said plan C and they went with plan B !

I will say again Lando is holding himself back but he needs to rethink because he probably had a chance of the podium

The first wheel to wheel with teammate is telling - the unusual situation they both had DRS but surely the move down the straight was so risky given where he was going

Verstappen - amazingly he held for 2nd maybe Antonelli's inexperience was the reason

Russell - looked on it and got the start from the beginning and controlled the race masterfully . I said he may impact the top 3 now and then so this will not be his only win this season
