I think I've set the new options and permissions up correctly but if anyone encounters any issues, please say.

Do the tags automatically generate and apart from clicking on the tags in a thread is there another way to search them?

No, they're not generated automatically.
You need to add them when creating the thread or by clicking the Edit link below the title for existing threads:
