Things ... Welcome to the Future (2018 - 2019 Silly Season)

Completely agree with that for me the only sport that can deal without terrestial coverage is football & thats because their 92 league clubs & hundreds like me. You can go see it live as it on your door step. But you cant do that with F1. Ive said many times i would have all 21 races on channel 4 then have other sessions on pay tv. Because youngsters back when i was 10. (Which world has changed alot) When its on terrestial tv its how you get hooked as usually because parents have main tv

Really if people want to take F1 seriously then LIberty Media need to reverse the Sky exclusivity deal. I see more people going to follow Formula E because its easy to follow and at least you did not know who might win

& its free to air. Its hugely important as i said before with cricket. It 2005 on channel 4 it was huge the famous 2nd test that went to the wire got 8m viewers gripped the nation the last series amazing coverage no doubt & a ton of money for the rights just past people by as i think 400,000 watched

So could easiy see FE on terrestial overtaking F1 before the end of 2024 deal

I love Formula E but shoved away on Ch5's Spike channel is not easy to find and is really not bringing in a UK audience.

Easy to get to venues and reasonable ticket prices are though.

I've been discussing this with my friends. Putting F1 behind the pay per view curtain is great, for about ten seconds. You get the current fans to pay through the nose (I never have and never will by the way) and there is more money in F1. Then the fans get fed up of paying, or move to a new sport or whatever and where are you going to get new viewers from? I don't think you will, so the sport will suffer hugely. Putting F1 on free to air tv is the only guaranteed way of gaining and keeping new viewers in my opinion. Of course opinions are like noses, we all have one!

Bill Boddy I thought another German car manufacturer is also joining the series as well.

I think once F1 is totally PPV then there will be a switch to Formula E or British touring car series even British F3 will get more coverage

I am actually finding MotoGP more interesting to follow even though Marquez is dominating but because there are at least 8 -10 bikes who could win races and a lot of top riders

So F1 might shoot itself in the foot if its not too careful

Also if its true Hamilton is seriously thinking about quitting in 2020, along with the British GP being in doubt and with no real outstanding British driver yet to succeed Hamilton unless Lando Norriss really makes the headlines that will put people even further off F1

Formula 1 teams get new guidelines for 2019 aero rules changes

& we got a picture of what they could look like, which i like the look of the front wing just 1 piece, which will hopefully cut down on the much needed turbulent air. Christian horner usually talks sense but i just understand how he thinks that these current cars are fine & don't need changing until 2021

Raikkonen seems to be losing interest again like he did before, Leclerc is hungry to do well. I'd like to see him at Ferrari.

Will this be enough? Is just cleaning up the front wing going to change things enough that we don't need the DRS....or do they need to do something more?

I saw an article on this. They are also raising the rear wing and removing the horizontal vains which should reduce turbulence off the leading car.

Removing blown axle, moving barge boards, increasing DRS gap to make it 30% more effective.

We will see.

Ferrari ready to replace Raikkonen with Leclerc for 2019 F1 season

It seems like Raikkonen is finally going to get the boot:yesss:and Ferrari will go for LeClerc on the basis it costs too much to hire Ricciardo???? This is Ferrari the team that gets $50m royalties each year just to be in F1 but they pay $45m reputedly towards Vettel's salary.

So it appears they don;t want to make huge bids to hire Ricciardo who would want at last a contract that highlights he is getting paid as a top line driver

It's the usual posturing and smokescreen guff. I don't believe any of the numbers.
I think realistically that there are now four top talents in F1 teams; Ricciardo, Hamilton, Vettel and Verstappen. The only one who has to make a decision is Ricciardo and if he's got his head screwed on he'll orchestrate a one year deal with Red Bull.
Mercedes will stay unchanged and Ferrari will take somebody on a one year contract, possibly Perez.
