I still like it, I think it's lively enough and has some nice lyrics especially changing it to 'I take it to the edge where I have lived a thousand lives' which is cool as well, I can't wait to see it live!
I'm with Jos. I actually quite like it.
I think its suffering from a bit of Star-Wars-prequel-itis here; whatever they did would never be good enough. They could not go with The Chain, because the BBC have that. They could not go with something like The Chain, because then everyone would complain about how they were copying The Chain.
They had to be different. Now that is a fantastic video; the first time an F1 introduction has referred to the fact there have been 60 years of the sport I can ever remember. The music seems like it is timed to fit with the video.
Take The Chain out of the equation and play the BBC's starting video for the last three years. What do you get? A car forms around a shadowy driver who is
clearly David Coulthard, the car splits up into 10 and we get unsponsored CGI versions of the 2009 cars racing and spinning around a track taking in the features of many of the F1 tracks. It is crap.
And remember ITV. I literally muted the starting credits when ITV did Formula One. It was the second worst thing from a long list about ITV's Formula One coverage. (The worst being the 2005 San Marino GP)
So, in its defence, it was impossible for Sky to satisfy people with that, and they've done a pretty damn decent job.
