Current Sebastian Vettel

Lots of threads have alluded to having a discussion about the current world champion so lets get it all off our collective chests (oooeer!)

Lots has been has been written about this young man from his testing debut with BMW Sauber in 2006 aged just 19 - he then progressed to the the toro rosso team for his first full race season in 2008 - the memorable race being his drive in the wet at Fuji where he managed to rear end his future team mate Mark Webber who said ""It's kids isn't it... kids with not enough experience – they do a good job and then they :censored: **** it all up." - Little was Mark to know he would be paired with the "Kid" just 2 years later.

His maiden win came at the 2008 Italian GP where he qualified up from, the race started under the safety car in the rain and the young German led from start to finish in the Toro Rosso - becoming the youngest winner of a grand prix ever.

Then we enter the era of the Red Bull. In 2009 he joined the Red Bull team, which got off to a torrid start as he managed to crash into Kubika in Australia, a feat he would go on to repeat during the 09 season.

Last year needs no mention........

So to the crux of the matter. Is Sebastian Vettel?

the real deal, the baby schumi, the new pretender - a genuine racer? - aka Wunderkind

or

A very quick driver, who lucked into a very fast car and can bang it on pole and lead from lights to flag and be the quickest pilot of a car, yet can't overtake for toffee? aka WunOrAother

Is this a feature of famous people?

It can be if we want it to be although I suspect we will get "modded" at some point. It is, perhaps, less frustrating than some of the discussions in this thread.

On Seb, has "winger finger" been retired? Will we see the sand dance this year or will he have come up with some new celebration should he win?

I once pushed in front of Bernard Sumner in a queue at Charles De Gaulle airport whilst whistling 'Love Will Tear Us Apart".

Ha! I don't remember the day but I think if it had been Monday I'd have whistled that instead. I darn't look at him in case I creased up laughing. He was too busy talking to someone I believe (but can't be certain) was Peter Hook to notice the queue to board the place had started to move so I skirted round him. Sucker.

What's all this with the blossoming of the avatars suddenly? Is it a Spring thing? I don't believe that FB is a lover of Uncle Joe.

When he wins FB when, because there is no doubt he will, and if the finger makes a reappearance, I won't mind at all.

Oh and for the record, I've never been to CDG airport, after reading this, I'm not sorry about that.

Now we are talking about airports? This is a true story.

I've been passing Heathrow more often than just several times, and admittedly I do not get their security specialists. I was pulled aside once, only to made go through scanning device three times, and all for a wrist watch. Then I had to take them off and they were looking at it again as they never seen something like that before. Don't you people wear wrist watches in London? I have a very thin Swiss made timepiece, and the security man didn't think it was save to let me through with it. At the end he gave up, and wave me off, which was good, because by then I was running out of time and patience. The incident smelled pretty cheesy to me, despite that today over some small sherry with love I share it with my friends or anyone still willing to listen.

It wouldn't shock me if Vettel retired, I would hope he won't, but it could happen. I don't know if Kimi would go back to Ferrari for a third time. Would Mick Schumacher be ready to head there yet? I don't watch the other series so I don't know. I am guessing if he's not next year they will want him as soon as he is in a position to race there.

Izumi usually I would concur that this is click bait journalism but if you read this article

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-...wis-Hamilton-Ferrari-Valtteri-Bottas-Mercedes

The source appears to be Joe Saward who is a very respected F1 journalist and would not write about these things lightly.
I agree that Saward is usually in different class (old school journalist), but in a German interview Seb stated he looks towards next year. It is actually Luigi Perna (La Gazzetta dello Sport) who is spreading "news" about Vettel loosing support from his team, which, if true, could play a role in Seb calling it quits. There is second angle to it, if Seb will not win in a best car, he could be asked to leave, like it or not. Problem might be, who determines that Ferrari is a best car there? Brawn thinks it is now in third place after RBR and Mercedes. All in all, admittedly Seb might get tired with whole situation, play Rosberg card, and leave.

There is no smoke without fire . Eventually the politics at Ferrari gets to the drivers it happened with Prost and Alonso. I think after Monaco debacle there will be a few people looking at the Ferrari team saying 3 times Le Clerc looked like he was going to be challenging for the race wins and 3 times he has been let down by the team itself now.

Their team orders policy aint going to work now and next time there is one I am sure Charles will not yield as kindly

From Vettel's point of view he has very few competitive options open to him unless he is prepared to go to Mercedes and be Hamilton's teammate or do a swap which is probably not on

I don't see Kimi coming back at Ferrari because that just smacks Ferrari being absolutely clueless. I heard the other day that Gasly's name was mentioned because of a possible merger between Fiat and Renault and Hulkenberg goes to Red Bull .

I've dissed him about his chances of getting a Ferrari drive .. it now seems Perez has a shot at Ferrari because of his backers

I would like to see Hulkenberg in a Ferrari perhaps the Italian connection then might lure Ricciardo into the car but is his Renault contract water tight or can it be wrangled if FIAT merge with Renault ?

Angel Mick Schumacher is not lighting fires in F2 and I don't think he is ready for F1 yet - certainly not a Ferrari drive. If Vettel retires, and with Hamilton, Verstappen and Ricciardo all tied in, then Ferrari will have to put all their chips on LeClerc. If they do that they'll need an experienced number 2. Kimi is a driver they know and is already in their system so I think he'll be the obvious choice.
