Manor Motorsport

When F3 team Manor Motorsport were given a place on the F1 grid in 2010 they commissioned Wirth Research to build them a car. Brawn sponsor Virgin became title sponsor and Virgin Racing was born

Virgin Racing

With Cosworth engines, Xtrac gearboxes and drivers Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi Virgin Racing embarked on their first F1 season. The VR01 chassis was the first ever F1 designed entirely using CFD, with designer Nick Wirth believing computer simulations were sufficient to not need expensive wind tunnel testing.

Inevitably the team had reliability issues early on and they also discovered the fuel tank on the car wasn't sufficiently large enough to allow the team to complete full race distance. Wirth Research got a dispensation from the FIA to homologate a new chassis and by Spain both cars finished the race.

The team regularly finished races but barely troubled the mid-field. By seasons end the team were placed 12th and last in the Constructors Championship based on a count back of minor placing’s having managed a highest finish of 14th.

2011

Russian carmaker Marussia have taken a controlling interest in the team for 2011 and Belgian Jerome d’Ambrosio replaces Lucas di Grassi. With the VR02 chassis Virgin will be hoping to move further up the grid in 2011.

I think it's less than a certain number of points sobriety. The sites off line at the moment so I can't check but I remember Onyx being on then and they got one podium finish.

My suspicion, as I have intimated before, is that the money that Marussia were paid for running Jules Bianchi was technically not payable by contract at the point he was replaced by Alex Rossi. If I'm being cynical, I wonder if they did not run Rossi in Russia in an attempt to claim that they were providing the machinery for Bianchi, who remained their lead driver.

This is all speculation, and I certainly hope it is not true as it puts Ferrari into a particularly bad light.

Yeah sad but I believe Marussia went bust as soon as Bianchi hit the recovery vehicle, F1 is very cynical as a business.

Very sad day, another talking point to over shadow the Brazilian GP.

Wonder if the company (CVC???) that owns F1 have smelt the bacon?

Graham Lowdon has suggested that Marussia could be back for Abu Dhabi and 2015. I'm hoping they are getting the financial support they need.

Incidentally Bernie has said any money that would have been given to Marussia for finishing 9th wouldn't be passed on to Sauber or Caterham.

As you go through the photos I can't help but think the whole thing looked a bit temporary, which I suppose it was.

Everything is for sale. Literally anything Marussia related can be bought at auction, there are 1000's of items listed on the following site so if you want to buy yourself some memorabilia have a look.
I have a feeling the Bianchi branded items will be very sought after but there are tons of other items available.

What stood out for me is the Marussia "simulator" It's not much different to the racing set up I have at home.

If I may be so bold, this is possibly a unit which is used at publicity events, so more of a games console than a true simulator. They had a similar set up when I visited Red Bull.

Besides, did Marussia not have a deal to use the McLaren simulator?

I think so too The Pits, it is listed on the auction site as a simulator but its definitely gaming equipment being used, the Logitech steering wheel is a step up from the one I use, it's PC based so probably running R Factor or something similar.
