In a further twist to this story, while Danny Bahar is quoted in articles on the Autosport website re-affirming Group Lotus' commitment to F1 and its depening links with the Renault F1 team an news story has appeared in the financial section of one of today's dailys saying that Lotus cars are to make 100 staff redundant at their Norfolk factory due to a shortage of cash.
Now keep in mind this is the same Group Lotus that have recently invested in their own LMP programme, an IRL programme, a GT programme, a motorsport engine development programme and at the Paris motorshow revealled at least 5 new models of Lotus to be introduced over the next 3 years. Not only that but they have also been spending huge sums of money taking "the other Lotus" to court over naming rights.
With all this going on it takes us back to the same question that most Motorsport and Car Industry journo's and bosses have been asking for some ime, namely, how on earth do Lotus think they are going to finance all these projects when Group Lotus can barely show a proffit year on year and company owner Proton swing from proffit one year to huge losses the next and mainly exist on grants from the Malay government.
I would not be shocked to see Group Lotus on the market within the next 18 months.
