Bahrain GP Debate

Never been so don't know. It seems like the Grand Prix is in the middle of nowhere when i've seen piccies. Bit like Magny Cours.
It's on the asian side of the Bosphorous (and it takes about 2 hours to get across the river from the European side of the city from what I've heard). And it really is in the middle of nowhere (Google Maps)

Well anyways its miles better than Bahrain and would be silly to leave it off the calendar if F1 doesn't go to Bahrain.

Think Turkey's been given the British GP treatment, you wait and see this time next season they'll be offered a multi year contract to continue hosting F1.

A quick question to you all - in light of the Bahrani enquiry into the clamp down earlier this year is Bernie right to still have the race on the calender for 2012?

What the government did sounds pretty nasty but China has massive on-going human rights problems, the US is pencilled in for 2012 and they still have rendition, water boarding, Guantanamo and capital punishment. The UK has been involved in rendition, sub-contracting torture and (arguably) illegal invasions of foreign countries. Australia's treatment of it's indigenous population is pretty dreadful (although getting better), India (and China) still receive UK foreign aid yet both can afford an F1 race (and a space program!), Malaysia have a pretty dodgy human rights record - I'll stop there as your probably getting bored by now.

The condrum for me is that when people are being killed in the streets we all cry out that a sporting event shouldn't take place. When they are being killed and tortured out of sight of TV cameras it doesn't seem to be so much of a problem. Am I being too judgemental?
