Ask The Apex

On the last drug testing topic former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamines twice. Needless to say he was banned from the sport for life.

My memory needs poked with a stick.

Q. What happened with the proposed 'ground effect' rules being brought in?
I know the engines are to be V6 turbos from 2014 and that the ground effect was dropped for 2014.
But was it just delayed or has it been dropped totally?

It has been dropped totally. Too much complexity or cost, more likely the latter, to bring them in with the turbos at the same time. Plus the energy recovery kit which is going to be much more significant as partnof the overall package.

Morocco is the only one that I know of (other than South Africa). Looking at this list I don't see any other African countries apart from those 2 either.

In terms of Formula One Grands Prix these are the African GP's to date:

Ain Diab, Casablanca, Morocco - 1 GP in 1958
Prince George Circuit, East London, South Africa - 3GP's 1962–1963 and 1965
Kyalami,Midrand, South Africa - 20 GP.s 1967–1980, 1982–1985, 1992–1993

Not forgetting:
Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 3GP's 2009-2011
Bahrain Intenational Circuit, Sakhor, Bahrain - 8 GP's 2004 - 2012 (except 2011)

However, pre-F1 there was this:

Nice Stats Fenderman but I'm afraid Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are officially parts of the Asian continent.

I just wondered why Bernie wasn't looking at expanding into Africa a little. I guess the money isn't there
