Grand Prix 2024 Singapore Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

This weekend we heading to singapore, the original night race, bernie had many terrible ideas in his latter years in charge. but this was proof he still had glimpses of the old magic & id say his final great idea in charge of F1. an innovative idea that has revolutionised F1. with Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Saudi Arabia & Las Vegas all following suit, & this is 14th running which has now surpassed adelaide, estoril & equalled brands hatch in F1 races

If you're curious about how Formula 1's Net Zero 2030 plans align with the sustainability of night races, In 2022, it was disclosed that 85% of the grid's electricity consumption was carbon neutral. Renewable biodiesel powered 48% of the circuit & since the event in 2011, used cooking oil from food & drink vendors has been collected to convert into biodiesel. Following a successful trial with energy-efficient LED lights, all track lighting was replaced with LED bulbs in 2023, reducing energy usage for track lighting by approximately 1/3

A weird anomaly of the F1 calendar, there are only 3 surviving city states in the world. & F1 race in 2 of them Singapore & Monaco, It's unlikely we'll see a race in Vatican City to complete the set, but as they say, never say never. who doesn't want to see the pope waving the chequered flag

Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometres, which is the similar size as Madrid

also something to think about when you see the iconic view of the singapore flyer or the marina bay sands Hotel on the broadcast. Buildings in Singapore cannot be higher than 280 metres

The big news coming into F1 is that we all expected this would be Riccardio ongoing Farewell to F1, in a shock twist we all expected we would be saying goodbye in Abu Dhabi. but it news is growing stronger that we maybe saying goodbye this weekend. Liam Lawson will be brought in after the autumn break when he get back going in a months time at Austin

It was suggested that it could be a double announcement where Lawson gets promoted to Red Bull and Hadjar is in for Ricciardo for 2025

Anyone's rear wing flexing btw

alot has changed overnight last night it was leclerc v norris & now leclerc has lost his way. Red bull & mercedes look better than they did as i fearing they could go out in Q1. but still wont be happy, as car still have problems but at least they are faster than the williams

weirdly id say going into qualifying every driver but norris, will be unhappy with their car

Just shows how crap he is to lose his way on a circular track. I mean I'd get it if it was a Paris Dakar rally stage in the middle of the desert where there are no signs but surely he just has to follow the track and not hit the walls here?

After no effort at all, I have managed to summon the same amount of excitement for this race as I have for all races over the past several years.

Yeah, I have a similar spot in the same boat. I think I may have watched one race live this season and the 'highlights' of a few of the others but that's about it.

I've even gone beyond FB's F1 zombie stage.

A love affair with F1 that goes back over 35 years is completely kaput.

isnt that just as you get older your enthusiasm for most things wanes & not bouncing of the walls. im alot calmer than i was 15yrs ago. im still enjoying this season because normally on a triple header im sick of the 3rd one. but ive not had that all season yet

sadly that is likely the end of Riccardio F1 career going out in Q1. i think it should be proper farewell in abu dhabi. but red bull have always ruthless

Can Lando lead at the first corner or will Verstappen take him out so Hamilton will win ?

Piastri went too early on his lap

I know there was only 8 minutes left but was there enough time to do 2 runs?

thats the risk. if someone put it in the wall then piastri wouldve been stuffed. better safe than sorry

& my guess is why rush with 2 runs. with 1 on a set of old tyres

---------------------------------------------------------

13th that is dreadful. but at least we know old perez is back.

apparently the reason for pace increase is they have stiffened up both mercedes & red bulls. because apparently the computer said soft is quicker as its more compliant over the kerbs & more mechanical grip. as the saying goes sport isn't played on paper & on track as hamilton & verstappen proved in FP2 it was a huge handful.

an absolute disaster of a Q3 for Ferrari. what a difference a day makes. & it does make for another fantastic race in prospect

Surprised by Verstappen's pace but it will be interesting to see if Piastri can come through quickly past Mercedes to give Verstappen a worry.

Surely Lando can't mess up this short start

I don’t understand why Verstappen wasn’t called to the stewards… he kept his foot planted through the double waved yellows to finish a fast lap. Yes, that lap was deleted, but the thing that he should be censured for is driving flat-out past an incident, that frankly he didn’t know what was around the corner.

Jacques Villeneuve faced a race off in 1997 for doing that same thing.
