Pre-Season 2012 Testing: Barcelona

Button / McLaren definitely seem to be refueling their car in-between long runs. I'm pretty sure this morning they did 2 single lap runs on 2 different sets of hard tyres. Then following that fueled the car up and did 2 long runs consisting of 11 - 12 laps. The times were so similar that it suggests he refueled for the second run back to the same fuel level as the first run. Following this, he then has done two 13 lap runs on soft tyres. I imagine again, from the similar times he has been refueled in-between. This would make perfect sense as I assume they would want to back-to-back any setup changes and the best way to do this is to have the same amount of fuel and same tyre compound with the same number of laps done on it. Whereas today it is quite obvious, lots of people have suggested both Button and Hamilton were also refueled at some points during their supposed "race simulations" - both were taken back into the garage a couple of times whereas Vettel and Webber were not during theirs. I think this probably explains some of the time difference as I doubt they are really 1 - 1.5 seconds behind Red Bull as BBC's Andrew Benson suggests from his "number crunching".

Update: McLaren are now officially the only team to complete 100+ laps on all days of testing at Barcelona. No other team can as McLaren were only team with 2012 car to do 100+ laps on day 1.

Massive contrast to last year. It's almost a little strange how McLaren seem as reliable as Ferrari last year and Ferrari as unreliable as McLaren were. Lets see who comes out on top at Melbourne, will be interesting!

Doesn't it worry you that they haven't stated what it is?
Why would they? It would be pretty foolish of them to show ominous speed and then openly admit to all their rivals exactly what their chassis shortcomings really are. It's bad enough for Lotus that they've had to pack up and come home from the test early, without airing all the skidmarks on their laundry as well, don't you think?

Yeah but also wouldn't all this debate about how bad it be just go away if they came out and said "yeah the exhaust pipe was cracked and we're just gonna fix it with some chewing gum" - nothing to debate nothing to speculate - Lotus not getting bad rep on the internet.

Its always more worrying when teams don't reveal their problems

Another interesting fact. Red Bull have only covered 100+ laps on 1 out of the 8 days of testing so far and that was only 104 laps. Webber seemed to be in the garage an awful lot today and they've seemed to have had some kind of technical problem each day. They're a bit unreliable at this stage compared to the standard they set last year.

Ferrari are the same, they managed 103 laps so 100+ laps for the first time today. Although they've probably had worse reliability than any other car.
