Somebody is in good mood. Joking aside I usually cut my nails short, however this race will probably make my finger tips bleeding from biting. This season start to me is promissing to be one of the tightest contexts in recent memory. In the past when Michael and Mika were close, I didn't worry about them sorting out positions shortly after start, regardless how close they both were to the track walls. I am however not at all comfortable with current crowd. Verstappen, Leclerc, and Bottas have all fast cars, and they have something to prove. Would be nice to hear what Mr. Horner will tell Max, and whether his driver will actually take well heeded advice.

FOM have decided (gimmick) to introduce (gimmick) a point for fastest lap (gimmick) for this season. What a gimmick (gimmick)

F1 to award point to driver who sets fastest lap in a grand prix

Well I suppose it might make a difference to the way some drivers drive.

    But probably not.

Cue even more alternative pit strategies from Sauber/Alfa and some "where the #*@% did that come from?" moments from Kimi...

Several drivers like to get that 'prize' in a race already, it might give us some blistering laps later in the race as they all try to get that point but I doubt it will change much to be honest.

It probably won't but continue with the Pole Championship and Fastest Lap Championship as they currently exist if they are important to drivers. Give the teams extra prize money for pole or fastets lap, even bring the driver who got fastest lap up on the podium and give them a trophy but don't let it influence the Drivers or Constructors Championship.

Question - if the fastest lap is set by someone not in the top 10 they don't get the point - so does that mean no one gets the point?

So the teams who would most benefit from this - the ones usually towards the back - probably won't ever be eligible for it even if they do perform the fastest lap.

While their at it gimmicking, why not award points for Pole sitters as well?
    Something like ;
    Pole - 3 points
    2nd - 2 Points
    3rd - 1 Point

I am very strongly opposed against points for qualifying.

What a load of nonsense, yet another gimmick to try and appeal to casual fans.

So we now have a situation where someone can secure a tight world championship by getting the fastest lap.

    Twats.

It reads like that, though it's not been made official yet so who knows? That's ridiculous though, if you get the fastest lap you should get the point if there is one available wherever you finish I would have thought.

Angel Greenlantern101 what I'm trying to establish is whether if in last race of year Max is on to win world championship from Lewis by 1 point for his fastest lap could Merc pit Bottas for fresh tyres, even if it sent him to the back, just to take Max's point away.

RasputinLives No, as I read it you have to finish in the top ten to get the fastest lap point. So if you go with your example Bottas would be out of the top ten, therefore he couldn't get the point and prevent Max getting the championship. That's how I'm reading it anyway.

And thus was F1 in the last 20 years ever so neatly described.

    LOL
