also i have been calculating round 16's under the current points system & some are quite fascinating. mainly Mansell only 20 pts shy of mclaren in 1988 despite retiring from 3 of the last 4 races. & in constructors a strange 1 where 2002 was seemingly the most dominant driver year but 2004 was the most dominant car year

The simplest way of determining the dominance of a car/team is looking at the number of times a team's drivers finished first and second in the championship. In the Ferrari era, their drivers finished first and second twice. In the Red Bull era, They never finished 1-2. In the Mercedes era, their drivers finished first and second in the championship five times.

I know you are no fan of Hamilton / Mercedes but that's simply not true unless you are only talking about 2021 which in no way can be described as Red Bull domination. Mercedes won the constructors title and Verstappen only won the drivers title thanks to "Human error."

Red Bull won 4 consecutive constructors titles between 2010 and 2013. During this period Webber and Vettel finished 1-2 on twelve occasions.

This season alone Perez and Verstappen have finished 1-2 on 4 occasions.

I believe he means in the WDC.

Perhaps it's just because Rosberg and Bottas were better drivers than the second drivers for Ferrari and Red Bull and were actually allowed to race their team mate.

In the four years Vetteltook the WDC, Webber never finished higher than third in the championship.

I would agree that Rosberg was certainly better than Webber and Barrichello. I can't say the same about Bottas. IMO he is at best the sixth bet driver in the field.

The point is, IMO, ever since Bernie brought manufacturers in to the championship, the driver has played a much smaller part in the outcome. The disparity in car performance throughout the field is vastly different than in days of yore.

i sort of agree because in 90s you could be in 4th 5th 6th team in constructors could stand on the podium & even win races. but now unless your top 3 you wont get on the podium

but if you take qualifying from hungary 1998.
- Frentzen was 2 seconds off in 7th & back row of the grid,
- 1 of them was 4.75 seconds off, other didnt make 107%
- Latifi in comparison slowest qualifier was only 2.2 seconds off Russell

I remember in the 90s we had teams with drivers 10 seconds slower than the fastest . Deletraz waz infamous for qualifying slower than F3000 cars
That was down largely to teams testing on track endless. The main problem is we still have a situation where the leading teams have the biggest influence on the rules
