It's on a plate here, how many other ways of running a race are there other than first to complete X laps?
They ran out of time but I didn't think they had time limits back then, it got to dark to race, it was red flagged

I've changed my mind I will give it to you. The race was planned to have an endurance style 3 hour time, so no-one knew how many laps would be completed until after 3 hours were completed, like Le Mans.
The only other example of unusual formats is AVUS 1959 where there were aggregates of two 30 lap races.
