Head To Head Nico Rosberg vs Lewis Hamilton

Some suggestion in some quarters by the very cynical that Nico's punishment was todays result and that Hamilton was always going to win today.

Certainly Nico didn't look that bothered at being 2nd.

Not really a punishment if it is the case. Before Spa is was 18point gap, now 22points with 2 races less to get the gap down.

Hamberg the way Rosberg capitulated was just too convenient, and then the way Hamilton and Rosberg both came out with tepid sound bites on the podium- it all seemed so stage managed! Not that that is proof though!

Let's scotch this right now. Rosberg has fallen off the road and recovered in the lead a couple of times this season, as has Hamilton. If they were doing that, then what was the 2.5s gap radio call about?

Toto was smiling because Mercedes had clearly avoided the battle and thus the collision and thus the expenses paid to the specialist fan fecal cleaner.

I just don't see it (maybe I'm the only one). With events this season like they are, I don't think Nico would let him win. Unless it was a "We will ban you for a race or you will let him win"

But Rosberg only makes mistakes on purpose, doesn't he?

IMHO no deals/threats/punishments....

Nico got a gift at the start and in trying to keep LH behind he made some errors. No biggie for him as Lewis is still three 1-2 finishes behind him.

Lewis will be very satisfied but the reality is he's still behind and one more DNF for whatever reason will kill his chances.

Hence neither of them getting too excited just yet.... But the atmosphere in the room before the podium presentation was very interesting...

3 to be 1 point behind 4 to be 6 ahead......so closer to 3 than 4 but I'll give you that it has to be 4 to make a material difference!

One final point that adds a tiny little bit of traction to the conspiracy theories; when Hamilton passed Massa, both Rosberg and Hamilton started pulling away at a rate of knots; previously, Massa had been keeping Rosberg honest.... However, this could just be that the Williams is harder on tyres than the Williams!

I'm guessing that Nico was managing the gap, increase slow and steady. When Lewis passed Massa though it gave him the hurry up.

I don't think for a moment that Nico went off deliberatly however I do think that todays result was the perfect one for the Mercedes PR machine which is why we saw Toto smile.

I think it was the best result for the Nico Rosberg PR machine as well.
