Head To Head Jenson Button vs Lewis Hamilton

Tomorrow I just may sit down and study that and work out what each drivers actual race day penalties were, and not the gearbox change and other things added up to.

How on earth did Button and Alguersuari escape sanction at India 2011 but Perez and Hamilton didn't?
I have written about this several times & KTK? provided a vid....of JB overtaking right next to Marshalls removing a car...
Suffice to say...JB had the 'gift of the gab'....
LH passed the scene when the Marshalls had gone & car had been removed...but someone was still waving a flag..
Damn.......wasn't going to say anything ....but..
When I see some of those UNFAIR penalties....>:(

Being at home on my sick bed today I've decided to put on my F1 review of the 2010 season and on watching it it occured to me what a huge catalyst for this whole thread Melbourne 2010 was. Jenson took a gamble on tyres and won and Lewis was on the end of a bad tyre call and ended up ranting at his team over the radio. Seemed to set the scene and one got associated with the other.

I wonder how things would have turned out over the next 3 years if Mclaren had left Lewis out.........I guess we can only speculate.

Actually it was not a bad call, just an unlucky one. In the days when there was no speed restriction going back to the pits when the safety car comes out it would have been an excellent call.

You seem to have replied about a different race than the one Ras was talking about.

At Oz 2010 Button was the first onto slicks, and at that point the two teammates tire strategy differed dramatically, with Hamilton being brought in for an extra pit stop late in the running.

I'm not sure the thump up the back from Webber helped Lewis that day either.....

Button was first onto slicks as He had a crap start followed by burning his inters out, I still remember sitting in the grandstand at turn 1, saying to my missus that he was going to win it now, then he took a trip in the gravel and nearly proved me wrong straight away. Was highly amusing when Jenson passed Webber for the lead as we were the only ones cheering him on in a sea of Webber fans. :)

Does anyone know how many times they each overtook each other? They had a fair few duels in the few years together. I know it doesnt prove anything as to who is better but I was just interested. Also, how does it compare to other teamates? Alonso and Massa dont ever go wheel to wheel in a proper race

I went through 2012 quickly and was kind of surprised to see that they didn't go head to head very often this year. I suppose that was because if Lewis was still in the race, he was rarely behind Jense.

The two documented overtakes between them in 2012 (pending Brazil figures) are -

GBR - Hamilton on Button for P9
IND - Hamilton on Button for P4

There was the China 2010 one, when they we're swapping places before Jens took Lewis off. And there was the Turkey one, when Lewis was told to save fuel and reassured Jenson had been told the same, only to have Jenson overtake. They went head to head after that.

Edit: oops sorry. I see you're looking at 2012

Lewis was on the end of a bad tyre call and ended up ranting at his team over the radio..

It seems as though all Lewis had to do, is question the pitwall on the radio, and with some that becomes a rant.

Over here in the states, Lewis communicated to the pitwall during the 2010 Australian GP that his tires were going off, and believe me if Lewis went into any rant while communicating to his team, it wouldn't have taken a minute for SPEED's commentator Steve Matchett to inform his audience regarding Lewis's actions.
