Would his comments be different if this thread was called Jenson Button signs for Lotus?

I'm sure BBC Radio West bloke will be a political heavyweight, not someone who went into journalism as a kid to try to become the next John Simpson, and ended up reporting on the "Avon Cattle Show 2009/10" after one two many Ciders.

More entertainment in end off season contracts/gossip then in some races this season.

Apart from the odd race, probably the most exciting part of the season.

Jenson/Hamilton/McLaren -- looking forward to the line up more because its all British then any other reason.

A lot is being made of Lewis' allegedly being particularly hard on his tyres. The incidents in China and Turkey appear to be the fuel for these assertions. However looking at the FIA's race lap analysis charts for races this year there is no evidence that Lewis's style is particularly detrimental to tyre wear. His race lap times are usually very consistent throughout a stint. Even when the car was a dog, Lewis was still turning consistent laps right up to the moment he would pit.

I don't believe tyre wear will be a factor in the Button vs Hamilton match up. Lewis has proven to be very adaptable in the past and once he gets the Turkey off his back...

It is far more likely to be qualifying that will determine the winner and loser in this battle of Britons.

Although Lewis' lap times are consistent, there's no doubt that he prefers a looser set up at the rear and likes to slide the back end around a bit, which is great for us spectators :)
The perception therefore is that he has to pit a little earlier than perhaps other drivers who are a bit "smoother".

Whether that's true or not I guess we can only find out by going back over the fuel loads and first pit stops for last season.
Any takers? :D

Welcome to the site BTW

The narrower front tyres will have a big effect moving the balance of the car toward the rear and a more neutral or understeer bias. That should suit Jenson more but also it will force Lewis to make some changes to his driving style... perhaps radical ones. As I understand it Lewis had to make some major adjustments when he started driving F1. Does anyone know or remember how drastic they were?
