2016-17 Silly Season. Drivers Market

RasputinLives

It seems to be an option for Merc/ Toto seeing he probably can still pull a few strings at Williams not just his wife to get Bottas into a Merc and offer additional incentive with the engine side

BUT trading Bottas with Wehrein ... from Williams point of view makes no sense having a pairing with 1 season experience
also was not Wehrlein a development driver last year at WIlliams so why did not they select him then in the driver merry go round?

Also Wehrlein's ego - he does not listen to his team when they can see there is a mechanical issue and having to deal with the blow that his enemy Ocon got the Force India drive ahead of him. How would he cope with getting beaten by Stroll and would that then involve Mercedes trying to get involved to protect him if he has a fall out

Williams rate Nasr despite his poor season but are they being sponsored by Bank of Brazil still which would be an incentive to have him as well maintain Brazilian interest in F1

As for Manor what is going on there ? I still think Jordan King is in with a shout of the seat .

Prob tenner I'll never see again!

"Stop the car and switch off, stop the car and switch off, stop the car and switch off." (Manor)
"You want me to stop the car?" (Wehrlein)
"Yes, stop the car and switch off."
Manor deliver a coded message to Pascal Wehrlein - but the German manages to discern the underlying meaning and pulls off to retire. He admitted afterwards that he simply 'didn't want to believe' the instruction, given his promising start to the race...

What a moron

Pascal Wehrlein's Long-Term F1 Prospects Look Uncertain After Force India Snub

this was before obviously Rosberg retired but how many drivers publicly demand an explanation to the press why you were not hired ? Force India owe Wehrlein nothing other than giving him an opportunity to show himself through Mercedes his abilities .. it appears Ocon did more to impress the team

No doubt Force India go back to the situation with Paul Di Resta another Mercedes protege as a comparison to not take him on

Interestingly Toto also add he did not think getting Bottas was on whilst saying hiring Alonso or Vettel is not high on the agenda

But his phone has been bombarded by everyone since Friday

Hamilton has come out and said his teammate must be prepared to take the heat and Toto is going to speak the engineers at Brackley on Monday

This would be a wild shot but what is the odds on Button being asked to stand in for 1 season only because I wonder if the engineers which includes Andrew "Shov" Shovlin might put a good word to get him out of retirement and he is a safe pair of hands and can handle Hamilton without blowing his top

gethinceri The man even admitted himself he is a bit arrogant

You say its overplayed but it is not doing his reputation any good is it ? You have to feel sorry for the Manor engineer who has to spend time fixing a broken car and could do without unnecesary repair bills

No doubt its discussed down the paddock what happened at Austin and Monza

I'll say this would it not be easier for Williams to take on Wehrlein to maintain good relationship rather than pick Stroll ... I am sure part of it is down to his attitude towards his own pit crew almost Jacques Villeneuve like I guess

Last year I thought Mercedes tried to protect him or the senior drivers were told to do so to help him win DTM which irated Audi who were promised open racingI and Merc's response was they have a championship to win... seems to be double standards considering what Hamilton was trying to do last weekend without Merc drivers helping

The fact Mercedes have not have the decision quickly means they seriously know what is at stake for the team, Hamilton and F1 overall

Hamilton would simply destroy Wehrlein if they were teammates but Pascal seems to get protection from the management

Interesting story in one of on-line feeds that Merc tried to get Hulkenberg and Renault told them to take a hike.

If it's true that they've tried to sign Hulkenburg, then we're likely to be looking at the Bottas, Checo, Grosjean end of the market rather than Wehrlein and Ocon.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say Mercedes get Button because if the engineers at Brackley are allowed any input then they might say get Jenson

FB You know that is rich coming from Mercedes seeing they told Renault they can't have Ocon so are they now saying that if they got Hulkenberg Renault could have Wehrlein who was not on their radar of wanted drivers

It was be insulting to Renault if they were then told they could now have Ocon

A German driver driving a German car continues the trend at Mercedes that they have one driver who is German

cider_and_toast Apparently Toto's phone has not stopped ringing and only Raikkonen and Kyvat's agents have not called him

teabagyokel Toto ruled out Bottas as one of the least preferred option so it must be something to do with the clause in his contract at Williams then that Mercedes will have to pay out

Looking at those 2nd tier drivers they all don't have water tight contracts or ones with huge pay out clauses

That still doesn't mean to say its not going to cost Mercedes. The agent may very well call Toto saying 'come and get my guy' but then there's the small matter of doing a deal.
