2016-17 Silly Season. Drivers Market

I wonder if Sunday's Italian referendum result would influence Ferrari's price to release Vettel, assuming he's on the phone to Toto....

When Elio lost his life years ago, one of the reasons Bernie gave for hiring his replacement was he was one of the only available drivers who was sensitive enough not to call and volunteer to jump into a dead mans shoes.

Stay off the phone Derek Warwick and you're in with a shout.

:D
Well, this is something different than a driver dying.

I hope they get a really good driver for this seat though. Wouldn't be a lot of fun if it gets to be someone who can only play second fiddle to Hamilton. Vettel, Alonso, Button, Ricciardo, Verstappen would all be fun.

Mercedes have a tough call here. A genuine number 2 would smooth the relationship between teammates and relieve some of the management pressure but, with the new regs, if another team for example RBR, really come to the party, Mercedes need the strongest driver line up possible to maximize their WCC points.

Would love to see Sainz Jnr as Lewis Hamilton's teammate for next season, but I think it will be Wehrlein who will be at Mercedes which would be a shame.

The more I think about it the more I think they'll go Ocon. Wherlein has the whole German thing going on but rumour has it he is not great at getting on with a team and can be a bit objectionable. Ocon is a French version of the lovely boy, has speed and a proven track record when it comes to dicing with Max Verstappen!

bet Hulkenberg gutted with rosberg news, is yet more typical bad luck, if he wasnt at renault i would have him at Mercedes in a shot he's as good as vettel (at red bull) given the chance.

I assuming that Wehrlein was overlooked at force india & this is could just pure luck because Toto Wolff already said he knew nothing of this, imagine if Wehrlein was appointed dejavu 10yrs on because in 07 lewis joined Mclaren as young upstart to challenge his experienced multiple world champion teammate & in 17 Lewis becomes experienced multiple world champion teammate. But my shout is Bottas to Mercedes very talented driver & saw this tweet "does Williams now do a deal to release Wolff-managed Bottas to Merc? Merc giving them Wehrlein as part-ex + $ on engines?" Which makes alot of sense because it would free up so much money 30+m from stroll & free/heavily discounted engines + great driver

But for me Hulkenburg alonso or vettel would be awesome & you can guarantee bernie has a hand in get the firework pairing

That betting page has already gone. which strongly suggests, if I know bookies, which I do, that they have had a run on 1 driver in particular, which almost certainly means the decision is made and those in the know are cashing in.
