It would be sensible for Button to think that Hamilton would not be so foolish as to overtake on the side where the gap was bound to diminish. Had Hamilton gone left he would have gone up the inside of Button and prevented him from clipping the apex at the corner. Then it would have been job done.

Hamilton likes to overtake on the outside as it gives him a better line going into the next corner where often inside line overtakers lose the position. This argument has been done to death now.
 
In a race, especially F1, and you are ahead of another car, why on earth would you willingly concede a position by moving out of the way of a car that IS BEHIND YOU?
Not sure if you've seen the video, but Hamilton wasn't behind when Button moved over.

As I said though, I don't expect the video to change many people's minds - they've already decided who's guilty and stewards' reports, driver statements and video footage won't alter that.
