Football 2011/12 Football Season

Keith Millen, Bristol City manager, time to go..? :tumbleweed:
I don't really follow football but how is it the manager's fault if the players on the pitch manage to throw away a 2 goal advantage in 20 minutes?

Did he make a series of rubbish substitutions or something?

If that result was taken in isolation, you could probably say it's the players' and not the manager's fault. However, this latest fiasco is just that - the latest fiasco in a long line of fiascos.

Bristol City's 10 match results this season, both league and cup:

Home - lose (start of the season)
Away - lose
Away - win
Home - draw
Home - lose (to League 2 side Swindon in the League Cup)
Away - draw
Home - lose
Away - lose
Home - draw
Home - lose

All season, the team has been poor. The last two home games were the first home games this season in which City have scored! Millen has been in charge last season and 10 games this season, so it's not like he hasn't been given the time to get his team right. Apparently he's a nice bloke, but does being nice really work in football management?

Allegedly, the next game (away against Blackpool) is make or break time. Trouble is, who do the Board bring is as a replacement..?

David James :o

Having said that, I called this one before the season kicked off. James has been doing his coaching badges, has the respect of some of the players (from what I've read in the press) and I believe would jump at the chance.

I've no idea if it would work but Millen is living on borrowed time and it's not if but when he goes.

Another great season in the history of Bristol City.

You could be right there C_a_T. David James as manager... What are the alternatives..?
The coffers are anything but bulging, so after paying off Millen, how much is left to coax a proven manager to Ashton Gate?
The assistant, Steve Wigley, could be caretaker I suppose, but he had a brief stint as manager at Southampton and was dismissed after just 14 games! So probably not the best replacement!
City are already paying DJ handsomely as a player, so just switch him onto a manager's contract?? :dunno:
Would DJ want to be manager?
Do goalkeepers make good managers? :dunno:

I think that, after the Blackpool game on Saturday, there is an International break. So City will have a couple of weeks to mull things over, if the game on Saturday doesn't go well...

Not many so it would seem however Don Mackay was an ex goal keeper who was involved in coaching at City in the 70's before moving in to management in the 80's and 90's.

I think I read in an interview with David James that he was keen on going into management.

Dino Zoff was Italy manager for a time. Irrespective of the history of goalkeeper managers, James seems intelligent and thoughtful. Mind you, is that what's required for management?

If he's to be Bristol City manager then no, what he'll need is the ability to perform miracles on a budget of 50p a season, the ability to win over the most fickle fans in the country, the ability to sing "I am a cider drinker" by the Wurzels and a proffessed love of scrumpy.
