Turbo engines deals expensive

Honda always insist on Japanese driver ie Sato to Jordan/ BAR or S Nakajima in the 80s
- Honda for dropping Sato from BAR had to assist with getting them the drive at Super Aguri Honda

Williams hired K Nakajima because essentially they got free Toyota engines

Ford use always want at least one British driver

Red Bull hired Mark Webber no doubt because FLavio pulled a few strings in offering a cheaper Renault engine as well

Toyota might be Japanese but their team is based in Germany that is why they signed Schumacher ( but the wrong one)

BMW obviously want at least 1 driver to be German when they were back in F1

Ok, there's a couple in there but there's a difference between a team/manufacturer wanting a driver of a certain nationality to an engine supplier. Toyota or Honda the team might want a Japanese driver and that would make sense, but it's less likely that they would insist on a team they're supplying engines only too having a particular driver although you did point out one or two examples.

That's a myth. Just three team examples:

McLaren: Honda engined from 1988 to 1992 - no Japanese driver
Williams: Honda engined from 1983 to 1987 - no Japanese driver
Jordan: 1992 Yamaha engined with no Japanese driver; 1998 to 2000 Mugen Honda engined and no Japanese driver; 2001 with Honda and no Japanese driver, 2005 with Toyota and no Japanese driver. 2002 with Honda was actually an exception with Takuma Sato .

Of course the list above refers to race drivers and not to test drivers.

Fenderman Honda if it aint Japanese for some reason they prefer Brazilians - Piquet to Williams on the promise/ expected to be No 1

Piquet or Senna to Mclaren and it was Senna who got the nod

Barrichello to Honda after they dropped Sato then when they were going to drop Rubens they either had DI Grassi or B Senna their preferred choice before they quit

Williams apparently were told if they wanted Honda engines for 1988 they had to hire Nakajima in one of the cars

I did mention above Toyota were based in Germany so they went for German drivers pretty much from 2005 onwards

Jordan 1992 Yamaha engines - not sure how Eddie pulled that one unless Gugelmin with his sponsors were partly paying for it

Tyrell Yamaha - they had Katayama
