The 2010 season

How blatantly do they have to flout the rules before the FIA hand down some sort of punishment?
I thought exactly the same when I read that sentence.

I'm betting the FIA don't do anything about it though...

Well as this video shows there is a sea of cameras arounds Fiorano to film this super important promotional video. Well, some bloke with his camera phone standing behind a barbed wire fence. Let's hope Ferrari paid him handsomely for his efforts - maybe it's James Cameron making some cash on the side...

There is a glimmer of hope...

Formula 1 chiefs have been urged to learn the lessons of why the Canadian Grand Prix was turned into such a spectacle.

After tyre dramas in Montreal helped deliver one of the most exciting races of recent seasons - with 60 overtaking moves during the event – leading figures within the sport believe F1 should take into consideration exactly what the factors were that made it so good when it comes to framing new regulations.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner reckons that Canada showed perhaps too much focus had been spent worrying about aerodynamics having the biggest effect on the racing.

"There was this myth of aerodynamics being the root of all evil – but in Canada you could quite clear see tyres have a much bigger influence on car being able to race each other," he told AUTOSPORT.

"In fact, you could say now it has a bigger influence than perhaps aero does."

Unfortunately they are completely ignoring the fact that Montreal has no medium or high speed turns that could cause any ill affect on the aero balance of a following car. So Horner is again spouting off about something he knows absolutely bugger all about...

Couple of bits of gossip:

Williams to stick with Hulkenberg and Barrichello for 2011 and Tonio Liuzzi expects to stay at Force India for 2011 as he has a contract. Best put in more drives like you did in Canada then Tonio...

If the FI story is true this means the top half of the grid, perhaps with the exception of Petrov, is fixed for 2011 so no driver merry-go-round for us to speculate on. Looks like the test drivers like Paul di Resta and Garry Paffet will be scrapping over seats at HRT, Virgin and Lotus and whoever gets the 13th grid slot.

Edit: I forgot all about Sauber where it looks like both seats may well be up for grabs. DLR is quoted as saying he "is available for employment next year".

I heard (from the internet, bear in mind) that Chadhok was being lined up to join the Indian team in time for the Indian GP (next year). If Liuzzi is staying put, does that mean Sutil might be going elsewhere?

Is that Force India?
The last I heard is Chandhok's seat was under threat due to lack of funds/sponsorship.

I'd like to see Sutil at Renault alongside Kubica.
That's about all that is available to him in reality as all the top teams have finalised their line-ups.

Welcome to the site BTW

Chandhok has impressed me a couple of times this season. He couldn't have had a worse start to being in team with the chaos that HRT found themselves in at Bahrain but I think he coped really well that weekend. There have been times since when he has shown genuine pace.

I'm not surprised that his name is being mentioned in connection with Force India and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Bernie is seriously keen (as usual with money involved) to have an Indian driver at Force India.

It would be a real shame if he does loose his seat because of sponsorship issues but it wouldn't surprise me if he walks into a testing roll with FI with a view to a drive in the future.

Thanks, I've been abit of a stalker 8-) but have finally been brave enough to sign up.

I too would like Sutil to get a decent seat, I think the rumours of him being a 'crasher' are unsubstantiated. I will be surprised if Petrov left Renault though, his LADA (lol still can't believe that LADA is on an F1 car) sponsership must be worth some cash.

The safety car rules have been "clarified" after Monaco.

Safety Car
With immediate effect, no car may overtake until it has passed the first safety car line for the first time when the safety car is returning to the pits. However, if the safety car is still deployed at the beginning of the last lap, or is deployed during the last lap, it will enter the pit lane at the end of the lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking.

When Hamilton and Schumacher next do their CV's for a job at ASDA under 'any special skills' they should both add that they have the uncanny skill of making the FIA change their rules!

EDIT :-

How on Earth has this been missed by you guys?! -

Based on his career rsum and comparative F1 testing times, the World Council has approved the granting of a four-race probationary super-licence to Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung.

Ho-Pin Tung!!!! Are you serious?!?!

Who is Ho-Pin Tung?

Who is Ho-Pin Tung?

Ho-Pin Tung
Born: 4 Dec. 1982--Delp, Netherlands
Holds Dual Chinese-Dutch citizenship

--2003 Formula BMW-Asia series champion; tested a Williams F1 car following the season
--2004, 2005 & 2006: Raced in German F3 Series; won rookie honors in 2004 and series title in 2006
--Served as a reserve/test driver for BMW-Sauber in 2007 from China onward
--Competed in both GP2 and GP2 Asia Series in 2008
--Competed in A1GP competition during the 06-07 & 08-09 seasons
--Competed in International GT Open competition in 2008
--Competed in 2009 Superleague Formula season for Galatasaray S.K.(rounds 4-6) & Atlético Madrid(rounds 1-3)
--Tested for Renault F1 during the off-season; he was also announced as a driver with the DAMS team in GP2 for 2010

Granted, Tung's resume isn't the most sterling or the best around, but if the FIA have seen fit to give him a 4-race probationary super-license, then they must believe he is qualified to race in Formula 1. Then again, who knows what the FIA thinks at times?

Ho-Pin Tung has been Renault's 3rd driver since the start of the season, along with Jérôme d'Ambrosio and Jan Charouz.

He was also BMW Sauber's 3rd/test driver from October to December in 2007.

I wasn't aware that he didn't actually have a super licence though.

The quality manager at a Chinese factory I visited recently was called Sum Ding Wong...

BMW Sauber will have to keep their current name until next year.

The WMSC have agreed to their change of name request but only at the end of the season.

Maybe Renault have asked for a license for their 3rd driver to give young Vitaly a little more encouragement to perform...

Well I think we can definitively say who TV directors think is the best overtaker in Formula One. And it's not much of a surprise. Nearly every overtake that Lewis Hamilton has made this year has been shown on the regular broadcast with live coverage. If Lewis is anywhere within striking striking distance, the cameras will find him.

So for all you Lewis fans out there, here are all of his 2010 Overtakes through 9 Rounds.

Haha, Keke.

Gonna have to echo Brogans comments there ;) Lovely stuff.

Do you put these videos together yourself? I was going to do a formula1.com race edit esque video myself for Silverstone next week (get bored waiting for the official one to come out) but not sure I really want to compete ;)
